Description Playing here. Have been fiddling around with more complex paintings, but thought I\'d do something really simple. I was clearing my office today and found this sketch I\'d done on a meeting agenda, so thought I\'d colour it. Taking the stylisatin up a bit more.

How in the world...alright, my jaw just dropped in awe.
You completely change styles, and still make it look entirely YOURS. I feel like I'd recognise your style anywhere now, no matter how you change it. I'd bow, but i hardly feel that it fits the ideas of equality Enjy so values.
Incredible work!

Ooh, shiny. If Van Gogh did cartoons, they'd look like this. Like the crispness of the penlines in the hair/face.

Thank you! Yes, he's one of my favourite characters in literature as well.

I rather like this experimental style you've got here. The colors are vibrant and touchable, and his expression is just as vibrant as always: it shines through even here, and I love that. AND THAT COAT. I could die. Lovely work.

Thank you Yes, it's a bit different...I was trying to pare it down as much as possible as I'm often far too "fussy" and fiddly and bogged down in what I do.

Love this. His hair, I stared at it much too long for it to be called healthy staring. Is there such a thing? I also love the coat. The colour, and the way you put the shading. Fantastic work!

Very glad you liked it I spend way too long drawing his hair in doodles, but then it was noticed waaaaay back (even by the turn of the last century) that Hugo had a fixation on it, so I think loving his hair is safely in-canon!

For a really simple, this is surprisingly complex! Seriously though, he looks great. I love his hair.

Thank you! I may do more like this - it's an easy way of converting the things I doodle on spare paper at work into something to post, and it does force some clarity of line and colour on me when I'm usually so smudgy.

He is really handsome and I do love the background and those hairs.
He's expression is somehow dreamy, but I can not guess what he's thinking.

Many thanks! I was playing around with texture brushes on the background, as I'm still working out how to use each one.

Well. This just made my day. How beautiful.
I really like the way you've done this! It's so lovely. It looks a little Art Nouveau-esque to me, what with the defined outlining and shading around his face, and then it gets more impressionistic the further you move away from the center, and in the background (sketchy background! I like it!).
And his hair is magnificent, as always.

Glad you liked it - and yes, absolutely some Art Nouveau influence in admist the comic book general stuff...I love tendrils of hair and flowing textiles!

We've had some fantastic conversations about Enjolras' complicated relationship with France...His mother is the Republic (hence the title of this piece, the Republic embodied in the allegorical figure of Marianne), but his mistress is Patria, his country. That's...um...interesting, bless him.

Thank you! I tend to do a variety of expressions when I'm doodling - this pensive one was the one I grabbed and scanned.

And thank you, also, for all the faves and comments I haven't replied to recently...I've been a bit dodgy lately, but I do very much appreciate them
