Great texture and pattern, it really gives the fractal some height, and from what I can see, the variations you used usually wouldn't do that, that is just a product of some fine tweaking, no doubt this is a piece you spent a little while on.

Very nice work!

Thanks for that! It's a basic tiled set up, then I think it's fisheye that gives it the depth, with a final transform with linear and julian. There are probably a couple of transforms in there that are redundant, but I often lose track of what I've done. I should really be a bit more disciplined. Thinking back, I probably did spend a fair while on it!

Fisheye, really? Well, you used that variation to its best. Usually when I try to throw some of it in, it gives me a chatic pattern of really jagged lines, not anywhere near the smooth/rigid texture you achieved here.

Sounds good, have fun with it!

I guess the tiling makes a difference, also I reduced the size of the transform quite a bit, and used it at a setting of around 0.6. I think I might play around with a few variations to see what else I can do to get a dimensional look.

This has to be one of the most impressive textures I've seen. It looks like something out of an electron scanning microscope. It really looks organic.

I always wondered how people create three dimensional looking fractals. Do you just have lots of fractals layered over each other?

Great render!

contrarymary In reply to LuciousVicious [2007-07-22 22:04:39 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! No, it's not layered as such. If you're interested, I could send you the params in a note, so you could see how I did it.
