talk about giving an original twist to an already redone character( so many many times ) I really love it , for the originality and lack of color, but rich shadows!

ah..though i did attend Rhode Island School of Design..i must say most of what i know..i've learned from observation, trial and error.
just..you know..hours at the table (sketchbook, etc)
have learned more in the last few years doing work under contract than i have in the decades before,i think.

ha ha ha , yeah i figured as much, i guess in the end we learn more from pure practice than other things, you can observe and try... thatΒ΄s great advise, thanx!

I don't know much about it myself. All I know is that it's an anime fandom classic and ever mentioning to anyone that you don't know of (or worse yet, don't like it) will equal either a hoard of otaku whisking you away to watch a DBZ marathon (in which case you'll be under lock down for 8-12 months) or being tarred and feathered for expressing any sort of dislike for it. Believe me, any time I even attempt to cross examine the series I'm met with evil glares, LOL!
I think your rendition of Vegeta though has to be the best one I've seen thus far. As with all of your previous drawings, this looks effin' bad ass, lol!!

*nodnod*
Noted!
Thanks!
hmm..getting whisked away by a hoard of otaku might be fun..
(sadly i don't have that sort of time though lol)
I'm more of a Miyazake sort...(as far asi know..and ergo proxy and Hellsing and..and..
If you want to talk classic though..my intro to anime was the original Astroboy (and we're talking..back in the 60s here lol)

GenkiGoth In reply to CopperAge [2008-08-08 19:53:41 +0000 UTC]
Oooh astroboy is really good. I really don't care for the remake they did for it very much. Actually, alot of the remakes they'd done seem sorta bad. Cyborg 007 (I think that's what it's called) and Milk Chan...Oh god, don't watch them! There's one movie that Tezuka made I believe that's a half hour long and no voices or anything in it and it talked about nature and the environment and stuff. I heard it was great. If you're into his work that might be something to look for.
I remember watching speed racer and robotech growing up, but the one that got me into it of all things was Sailor Moon. I started to fall out of that, and when I was watching spanish programming (I lived in PR at the time) I caught the tail end of a series called samurai X. I wanted to see the thing from the beginning, so I went to this little nook that rented out bootleg anime and that was what kept me hooked for life, lol! It's an expensive habit, but damned if I'll kick it anytime soon, LMAO!

I know, the legs were super long! But because of that, I've yet to make a character with anatomically correct legs. I like them long, LOL!
Samurai X is the OVA. Rurouni Kenshin is the actual tv series. Both are absolutely amazing! Hmmm...now I'm tempted to do an RK fan art now, lol! The series has it's serious moments but mostly light hearted in the beginning, but the characters (especially Kenshin) get much more complex and serious shortly before the second arc. *sigh* I love that series so!!!
12 Kingdoms I've only seen a little bit of, but from what I've seen I've loved and I reeeeaallly want to see more of it!
Nothing can touch Miyazaki. Any person that will come to an animation studio and make ramen soup for the employees, and give them a how to on how he animates is an immortal awesome in my book, lol!! He and the pres of Pixar are great friends and for the Pres' birthday Miyazaki gave him an 8 foot wall sculpture of Totoro that when assembled, looks like he's coming out of the wall. It looks hilariously cool!
There are some great studios other than Ghibli. Studio Gonzo is awesome (they've done Breaking the habit by Linkin Park and Hellsing) Gainax (FLCL or fooly cooly) to name a couple. Oh! and of course Pony Canyon (Rurouni Kenshin and Flame of Recca)
Am I just as hooked on Manga??? Oh hells yes!!
RK (of course!) Blade of the Immortal, Bride of the Water God, Tsubasa, Holic, Emblamer, The Beautiful People, Popo can, 12 days, Gun Blaze West, Buso Renkin, Fullmetal alchemist, Deathnote, Zero Loan, Bleach, Guru Guru Pon Chan, Negima...and those are just the ones that I can think of off the top of my head, LMAO!
I'm a BIG manga fan. I'm a bad owner, however. I use them over and over again for story ideas (plot development, character traits etc.) and if the artwork is good I'll use it for help and ideas on perspective, expression, inking ideas, background, composition...I try to keep them in good condition as best I can. I guess I see it as if I'm going to spend 10-15 dollars of my hard earned money it's gotta be good. And believe it or not, the manga doesn't have to be beautiful to be good. The story needs to be good too. If I want to just look at pictures, I can buy an actual picture book, you know?
Whoa! ok I'm babbling! I'm leaving you alone now, lol!

the long legs...an art i have yet to master..
(well 2 tankubon at least focusing largely on Sal as a young girl..i have time..though i think she's all..just pre-teen in the second one..which means she will probably be all..mostly leg lol)
You remind me in a couple of ways, of my friend Lou (one of my other favorite people to talk with!)
1. you give me so much information in a message..that i need to sit back with a cup of coffee to digest it all (which..in my darker moments, i take to mean that you are both FAR smarter than i am lol)
2. you are both extremely talented!
In all other ways..you remind me of..GENKI! (which is an exceptionally good thing!)
YAY! Glad you are big manga fan too!
(and you've expanded my to be found list considerably!!)
SO strongly agreed about importance of story!!
(having a gratitude attack for Bryn at the moment. it was all..good and cool and interesting before she adopted the story and began writing it..it has become something..much richer and stranger..more dramatic and darkly funny and unpredictable now)
Ohhh..i wanna be like Miyazaki. when i grow up!! (and..as i'm 48..i suppose i should get on with it)
I would SO make Ramen for everyone!!
you think...
the hopeless manga (hybrid manga for purists) will be some of "those books" for you?
(you are almost uniquely qualified to answer this..as you have seen the never-gonna-be- published pages of the first version)
i.need to make more money..and get all famous..so i can buy more manga!! (and anime naturally.)

I apologize for being such a horrendous chatter box. I want to say that I try to tone it down, but..um yeah that never works, LMAO!!
If I can find where I put it, I can email you the full list of manga that I've been collecting. I can answer any questions that you have on them. See, that was the blessing/curse of working for Waldenbooks for 4 years. I got a neat discount, and all my money went right back into the store, lol! For the holidays, we get more of a discount and I held the record of spending the most at the store. Seeing as how I have 30 dollars to my name now, my manga shopping days have come to a screeching halt, lol!
There are some spaces in my bookshelf that are permanently empty for the following books. And those are for Sivoa (by *dragonmun , The God Machine and when it comes out, Personal Demons and Hopeless, Maine.
There is so much about the story that I cannot wait to read in more depth. The characters have many layers and the more you know of them the more you know of Hopeless, and what that place is capable of, lol! I especially love that you even have back stories for the ghosts and goblins that inhabit the place. And to top it all of, it's full of art work that I envy and am constantly inspired by. It's just jaw dropping, it really is. I'm standing at the edge of my seat as it is for the possibility that I might be able to see your comic at a bookstore, let alone have one in my library!
And while this may not sound like a compliment on the surface, I hope to beat the hell out of your book. Speckle it with post its and scraps of paper for reference shots and story ideas, bend the spine looking at the same particular photo over and over again and make that dirt mark in the middle of the face. It's the same stain that you see when a book has been read over and over again.
So yeah, yours is definitely going to be one of "those" books!!
