Description This was definately a trying costume, but I'm glad it's finished. This is the adult version of Princess Zelda from The Ocarina of Time. Hmm....what to say about this? Well, the main gown is made of casa satin (my fav. fabric!), the crown and belt are made from Sculpy (not a good choice), the armor is made from wonderflex and foam stuff and the apron thingy is all hand-painted goodness.

This was from 2006, so even if you were there, I wouldn't have known you. I don't think this cosplay will be a Youma, but I can kick you anyways^^

Isn't Casa satin the BEST?! Deffinately not the best quality of satin out there, but it's soft and heavy enough that it gives a great fall for formal dresses. And is cost effective for us starving artists. (PS, Joanns is having a $2.99 sale on their whole Casa collection on the 22nd....I think. It's sometime at the end of the month)

For a suggestion in the future, use Fimo instead of sculpey for accessories like belts and such. Depending on how much moving around and activity you have in your costumes, Fimo holds up so much better. It's a little heavier, but it's next to plastic when all said and done. It's not indestructable, but it takes a lot more damage than Sculpey ever could. I've had much better success with Fimo than sculpey in costume accessories.

Overall look of the costume, A+! Great craftsmanship and you look fantastic. I especially love the armor and the details on the...um...I can never remember what it's called but that flappy thing in the front like a loincloth but not. >.>

Casa tends to be my fabric of choice, I love that it's not extremely shiney. I've been given a few suggestions for something instead of Sculpy and I think Fimo was one of them, so I'll definately have to look into it.

Thanks for the comment and suggestion!

Yeah, I prefer dull satins too. They have that Baroque satin at Joanns which looks like you could use it as a substitute for a lighthouse lightbulb its so shiny. Dull satins look sooo much better.

I hope the fimo works for you better! Glad to be of any help I can be.

I can't say I know much about cosplay, but this is really nice

You're probably going to laugh at this, but I think my favorite bit is the pink strip edging on the bottom of the skirt - it really pulls the whole thing together, especially the apron and top.

CountessLenore In reply to golden-dirt [2006-07-08 20:27:20 +0000 UTC]

You're right, I did laugh, but that's a good thing! I don't think anyone has specifically pointed that out as their favorite. It was one of my favorite parts just because it was so easy to sew on^^

golden-dirt In reply to CountessLenore [2006-07-08 20:36:25 +0000 UTC]

Haha, told you so! It's the detail that makes an outfit, I think.

Have to admit that ease of sewing is always a good part of something

celestialdolls [2006-07-08 20:12:07 +0000 UTC]

I really love the fact that you have used different textures on this outfit. The eye moves around alot to each piece in a nice flow. And those little ears...... yay!! I don't know much about cosplaying or the characters but I'm betting you nailed this character perfectly.

Wow great job!!! I love the Zelda games, and Ocarina of Time is my absolute favorite!!! The handpainted apron is beautiful, and must have taken much patience!! I love the fabric for the skirt - it's so beautiful. The armor, crown and belt are great as well, and I know how frustrating and difficult that can be!! I made a Zelda costume several years ago too; it was fun but somewhat difficult to make!! here's a picture of it: [link] Anyway, great job!!
