AND MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

*randomly plays Wonderful Christmas Time  by Paul McCartney*

-----------------------------------------------------------

To alleviate your confusion-- yes, we Vietnamese do celebrate Christmas though the majority of our people are Buddhist. It was at first that the Catholics -who are minorities in my countries- would only celebrate Christmas privately (along with all other branches of Christianity), but in the recent decades, Christmas is quickly becoming one of the four major festival celebrated in Vietnam.
That is what Vietnam is discussing panel 5. Our celebration is quite traditional in Vietnam in according to the catholic traditions

Or click here

Despite what Vietnam said in the end, our traditions are a bit familiar to French traditions. They are the one who, first of all, taught us about Catholicism in the less than 100 years they colonized us.

------------------------------------------------------------

Why did America call Vietnam "Granny"?
You see, me and this friend of mines had this idea that, considering that Vietnam is almost literally 10 times older than America ("Which is oooolllldddd" as America would say), he would nickname her Granny (at his expense-- I can't really say she likes the nickname because it implies disrespect toward her, but there are times where it could be seen as respectful since it's apparently a good thing to assume someone is older than they are). I mean, Vietnam is older than England still by a lot! Granny is somewhat appropriate (of course, as long as it is implied respectfully).

When I think of Vietnam as 'Granny', I could imagine her be the type of person that would spoil the ones she considers her grandchildren (America, Laos, Taiwan, etc.) even though she seems strict on the outside.

Vietnam is part of the Disciplinary Committee?
Yes, yes she is. Don't you think it fits her? I mean, she can handle a lot of people (like France, China, America, Russia -as good friends and the likes-, etc.) and I think she could be a tough disciplinary, yet indulge at the same time (I could imagine her letting off America with his eating tendency-- only if he doesn't make a mess and cleans up after though. She barely tolerate France's perverted tendency and China is pretty decent at school though Vietnam does hound him when he's eating food during class. Favoritism anyone? XD Russia is Russia. He's practically an angel around heror she thought of him as an angel in where he couldn't do anything particularly wrong.)
I think she could be the president too, but, in my headcanon, that spot is currently taken by Switzerland as of now. She's supposed to be next in line if he ever steps down. She doesn't mind doing grunt work though.

I could imagine her, like Hibari Kyoya from Katekyo Hitman Reborn, to be named the 'Demon Disciplinary' and be basically unapproachable to many people. Of course, many of the Asian Group tend to bother her during work (especially Taiwan and China) and America to be a bit clingy considering they're pretty good friends despite past differences. Most of the tougher Europeans (like Germany and Switzerland) would probably respect while the more meeker are a bit intimidated by her. Italy seems to like her well enough though (like I said, I would imagine her to be quite an indulgent disciplinary. She does have many younger siblings she often takes care of despite her scary face).

"There's Such a Thing"?? You mean you didn't know that Vietnam celebrates Christmas?
Kinda. I know I celebrate Christmas, but that's because I live in the States. I asked my aunt if anyone in Vietnam actually celebrates Christmas like we do and she said "only mostly the Catholics". She hasn't been in Vietnam since the 1980s so I decided to investigate Christmas in modern Vietnam. Apparently, it was 'a thing' until recent decades when the Vietnamese government began to promote religious freedom. It's pretty popular in the major cities. Especially when it comes to decorations telling of Jesus in the manager. It's because of the majority of Vietnamese are Buddhist that I would assume (and probably most people) Vietnam doesn't celebrate Christmas.
It's actually a pretty big and popular festival in my country than most people would think.

"You think he would have learned on April's Fools"?
I was referring to this comic: Happy April Fool's Day, Vietnam!! (2/2)
This is only part 2. Part one should be in description of this comic.

When it's Christmas, there are lights and decorations hang around the city, on the buildings, on the streets and on the trees. And that's pretty much it. (Plus it's only in main cities).

She thinks Russia is an angel because of history. After the war she decided to go and make business with the Soviet Union, which at that time was not in a good relationship with China (Soviet, not Viet). And therefore, Chinese, Vietnamese war happened soon because of Soviet influence.

The plot of your comic is cute as always (Very detailed description too!) . As much as I know from some of my friends in Hanoi, they actually just sort of consider Christmas as a time to spend with their lovers and using it as a reason to give and get presents ,as well for the kids of course ))

Thank you for thinking so ^^
It's pretty much the same for in Japan too. XD They consider Christmas as a time to spend with lovers but it's not an actually holiday in Japan. If kids have school or if employees have work, they would have to go to school or go to their jobs. XD

Surprising it may seem, actually, from the beginning the governmemt didn't restrict any religion. Religion freedom after Vietnam war is a very normal thing! The thing that the gov did prohibit a lot were anyone who opposed to communism, who mostly at that time were Catholics. However, the gov didn't resrict Catholic or Christjan in particular like most people may think.

My mom in instance isn't Catholic, even has her father a Communist, but still celebrated Christmas with her Christian/Catholics friends in Da Lat, visited big stunning churches and listening to carols and such

Just wanted to clear up some things because Vietnam is still highly misunderstood.

Nice! I wish I could have use this for ASEAN's Christmas chapter! I'm still working on it. Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar are kind of tough...especially Laos...can't really decide on gender but I'll go with male Laos

It's also something that I can see America do as well.

France's hair looks less Flamboyant.

She did it again!

Right? It's adorable in a way if you really think about their friendship. I really do think Vietnam is the type to indulge the younger nation even though she would seem strict on them. America is fairly young and maybe possibly, probably, could be Vietnam do think of America as her childish grandchild. Just a bit.

Yeah, I want to make it a bit more curly and 'flowy' but I'm bad at curly hair a times. I'm bad at drawing europeans in general now that I think about it. xD Asians are easy for me. I was wondering why he looked to much like a girl at times, but then I remember-- this is France. Of course he's going to look a bit girly-ish.

: Darn straight.

crazeanime22 In reply to HoneyBeeGirl94 [2014-12-25 23:51:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. I was questioning myself how I would draw the last scene where it shows the aftermath of Vietnam's anger because the hair was already difficult enough. I was somehow able to pull it off XDD
I do love France's personality though-- even if I do keep beating him up in my comics XD

I've found my new APH Brotp.
America and Liechtenstein.
Their relations are amazing.
I've see Liech being a motherly figure that concerns over America's well being. While Liechtenstein is a Catholic, she sugar coats her curse all the time. While America only sugar coats his words around children. Like yelling 'Oh sweet, Sugar honey ice tea!, while Liechtenstein would him amusing.
