I kinda thought of that too.
In this case, I basicly thought, that normaly the bees kinda.. well really formaΒ hive-mind. eing seperate but kinda do/are the same.
In Julius's case, every bee was very different though. So it'd be more like you are one person, but you kinda have very bad mood swings, where you always feel different.
So when he evolved, it kinda mixed together into one and gave space for him to form his actual personality, instead of the kinda split, confused one. It's more likeΒ three seperate beings decided on one new personality they'd form together.
Kinda deep stuff when you get into actual pokemon logic xD

I can see how you can get a lot into detail about the leaves, because trees feel when you touch there leaves or it could be hair.

He's male. But gender doesn't matter in the group, at least I saw many people ask it already and it was confiremd to be so.
So I can have a male Vespiquen, just like I have a female Rufflet :3

Someone asked about it before , and evolution needs to follow the requirements. Combees need to be female to evolve to Vespiquens. What they meant by not caring about the gender is that you can use a Gender Stone to change the Vespiquens's gender to male after it has evolved, having a male Vespiquen. So you'd need to turn Julius into a she, evolve him, and then turn him back into a he.

Thet hing just is, when I asked and looked back then I'm 100% sure it was said it didn't
matter. It's just stupid because if I knew that I would have looked for other genders first;
now I have to spend two genderstones on a mon, gah ~_~
