If this is video "Admetus", His name is not Admetus. He is George. Admetus/Plato, Bill Bailey/Tumblebrutus, Pouncival/Carbuckety
Cats have 3 names remember, but you will never know the 3rd.
Mistofolees is also called Quaxo.

He's listed as Admetus in the video, and I just used that as the naming convention. And the cat with the patterning usually attributed to George is not present in the video. The George I'm used to usually has brown and black circles around his mouth and eyes.

the sad thing about the dating thing is that just about all the men are GAY! i have nothing against a yaoi moment, but that doesn't really do to much for me, and i'm not into girls.

I don't know why everyone puts her with Pouncival. I dont...I despise that pairing. THIS pairing I like. I think those two would be SOOOOOOOOO CUTE!!!!!! Oh my gosh, flippin adorable. I adore Jemima's content/serene face, and Admetus' goofy expression; AMAZING.

it's because people like to put kind with kind, and both Jemima and Pounce can be sickeninkgy cute in the right occasion. i have no problem with the pouncival...i just normally stick him with Etcy or Tumble because then i can write in some...sahll we say, size dymanimcs...drama for the two above with out worrynig about odd glances my way.
happy you like the faces, tho they'd look better if my scanner hadn't half killed this thing. Addy's face is hard to do semi-realistic and still look that way, so i'm glad it came acros the way i wanted it to
and...damn, this is a long response...shutting up now

I personally adore and prefer her with this character (I will not get into why I don't call him Admetus, because it just doesn't matter. XD). They're adorable together!

i believe i know why...his fur patternings were originally attributed to the character Plato in Britain, i think, and vice versa, so that Ademtus it the rust tom that does the mating dance with Victoria and Plato is the funny face pulling grey swing in the background.
Movie was the first exposure, so that while i know they are technically interchangeable, i prefer the movie titles, simply because the faces and coats fit their personalities better somehow. but no matter. glad you like

More or less, yes. <3 I actually consider video "Admetus" to be a version of George, with Plato being a separate character all together. But I know most people go by the video standards, as they're certainly the most well-recognized. When referring to the video, I always call that particular tom "Admetus" and the rust one "Plato" and Carbucketty "Pouncival" and so on. But in general, I prefer the London naming. I decided I wanted to be a super-nerd loonnnnnng ago and become an 'elitist' or something. XD
Really, it doesn't matter what people call the characters, yea? As long as they love them. <3

actually, all the pictures ive seen of George but him as a male calico wit h a brown patch on one side of his face, a black pathch on the other, and a little round circle over his mouth...weird...and i've always heard carbuckety was a seperate character from pouncival, they simply looked the same...brother's maybe?
and there's nothing wrong with being a nerd, dear.
i dunno...as far as th swings go, okay, but if someone starts ing Victoria Bombalurina, me and them's gonna have issues!

George is generally brown, black, gray, and white, with a signature marking on his mouth that looked like he ate a melting bar of chocolate.
Now, Carbucketty and Pouncival really look nothing alike in most cases, just like London Alonzo and American Alonzo look pretty darned dissimilar. Carbucketty WAS a Broadway character early on, but since Broadway and the US Tours went to using just Pouncival.
If you consider Carbucketty and Pouncival to be 'different' characters, then one kind of has to call Bill Bailey and Tumblebrutus and Jemima and Sillabub different on principle. They serve the same purpose in their respective shows.
PERSONALLY, I've always loved this link:

i forgot where i saw it, but they put the two next to each other somewhere, and they were very similar, but not quite the same (carbucketty and pounce) and even heard of shows using those two and leaving out tumble. Bill Bailey...i've always just heard that that was Tumbles' family name and they were the same character, and as fara as Jemima and Sillabub...i DO consider them two seperate characters, simply because in some productions, sillabub is this little gold patterned cat, and not the cali we see in Jemms.
I have no idea why there are two different alonzos. sort of makes me mad, because the american one is so drab compared to everyones favorite black and white

Oh, I LOVE the American Alonzo... but he is very different. As for Sillabub and Jemima-- well, they do serve the same purpose, and I think very few productions have them both (Japan, for example). In American Productions, Silla looks like a more orange or brown Jemima, for the most part (but all broadway designs are a bit scruffier).

crazyashley In reply to jarbythedoor [2010-11-15 16:17:16 +0000 UTC]
the only reason the name sillabub exists is because the braodway people were worried tgthat black people would be offended by the name Jemima, which carries...or used to any way...sorta the same connotation as Uncle Tom... but oh well..i like the little golde anyway.
as far as BW Aklonzo goes, i'd rathrr use his paterning 4 victor, somply so one coukd tell victor and Admetus/Plato apart...and i think i figured out the dicrepensy...the original plays had trouble finding enough cast, so the plato/Addy guy got stuc as a swing, and as macavit, and as rumpus cat or genghis, all depending on productuin. when they split the deuties amon two swins, the Amer and Brit version smost likely got the names switched around...

Ugh, I had a whole, long reply typed up. XD But it doesn't matter.
Suffice to say, remember which came first! <3 The video did a mashup of names with designs (between characters serving the same purpose), probably to make it more widely relatable (after all, people who'd only seen the Broadway show might not know what Carbucketty looks like, but they'd know his name was Pouncival and would thus know who he was, and vice-versa with London and their looks).
When I worked on a production of CATS, we had Tumblebrutus and Sillabub, but also had Carbucketty, so it was a mashup of names. BUT since that's what the director wanted for the production, so I didn't have a problem. Each production (Video included) has the right to utilize whatever names they want. I DID have a problem when she decided to make Tantomile sing Macavity instead of Bombalurina, though.... -_-

I'm not complaining. Sillabub is an adorable character with an adorable name. <3
Victor actually resembles Asparagus Jr. so much that I figure that he's his son.
The details of the naming are really, really production specific. I usually just accept that the video picked and chose names to make the show more universal. Yea, they used the designs of Carbucketty and Bill Bailey, but called them the names of the US counterparts. With Admetus and Plato... well, confusion abounds. I imagine it was the same premise, of course, combining London designs with US names (since in the US Plato plays Macavity), but they used the name Admetus for another character.
The details of productions actually QUITE interests me, which might be why I'm so particular about them. XD I CRINGE whenever someone sees the US Tour and calls Sillabub "Jemima". XD When I worked on CATS, we had a Tumblebrutus and a Sillabub, but also had a Carbucketty. XD It's just how the director made it, so I didn't have a problem with the name switching. What I DID have a problem with was making Tantomile sing Macavity instead of Bombalurina.... -_-

actually, the best thing for me is to picture them all as seperate characters with their own back stories and family ties...gives you more to play around with if you're drawing or writing...and if you have to make a production of cats, everyone gets a name, and not just 'swing cat #2'
the stage process intrigues me to, but i'll always call the little cali Jemima, i don't care where i see her (tho in any non english speaking country i will try to respect *and pronounce* the name changes)...and you SUCK! do you know how much i would give up to be in CATS! ahg, is jealous forever...
and ICK...i have no problem with Tanto...but Macavity is BOmba's (and Demeter's) song. Period.

I tend to do that too. In the fic series that I'm working on, I will have Bill and Tumble, Carby and Pounce, Jemima and Silla, and so on.
I wasn't IN Cats (i'm no actor/dancer/singer), but I was assistant Stage Manager for the production I worked on. But yea, I love Tantomile too, but the director had a problem with the girl cast as Bombalurina-- she said she was too timid, so a couple weeks before the show went up, she decided that Tantomile would sing Macavity instead... AND switched the costumes around (Deme and Bomba were both calicos, and she wanted the two singing Macavity to be calicos)... SO, Tantomile and Demeter looked similar and Bombalurina was blueish-gray. -_-
It just didn't make ANY sense. Tantomile had NO staged relationship with Demeter until that song. Bah.

That's a picture of the cast for the show I worked on (para-professional, many actors were 15-20).
And here's my horribly labeled version:

yeah...encouragement over originality should have won out...i mean, it's great that tanto got to sing more than two lines, but at the same time...the show's the way it is for a reason.
and actually, i've seen a couple of Cinnamon Abbysinian tabbies that could give Bomba and Macavity a run for their money
and as long as you give credit to whoever took the picture it shouldn't be a problem
