Description This is for my art class. We all got a woodblock, carving tools and the mission to create a print about a global issue. Being the creature I am, I discarded the clichΓ©d "world peace" and "global warming" and picked gay rights for mine. Now I'm NOT discriminating girl/boy or boy/car couples, nor a-sexuals, but this design now happens to only contain girl/girl and boy/boy. Please don't complain about this, I appreciate all sexual orientations the same.

I'm happy I only chipped of a few things I wasn't supposed to. Carving woodblocks is hellish... But more lively than linoleum in my opinion.

EDIT: I'm getting so many favourites I never imagined I'd have so many if all my deviations were added together, so THANK YOU to all you who favourited!!! I appreciate it so much <3 I don't know how my morning could have been much better :3 And thank you for all those who commented~

wow! O_o this is so similar to a project i did in my art class at school! It was a print of a global issue as well. I chose gay rights too. I did more along the lines of just the symbols, with a large heart and stripes for the rainbow. yaay. Anyways love this though! <3

Seeing as it looks like one hand is a lesbian and one hand is a "fag", it has girl/boy undertones, so I don''t think you have anything to worry about~ I may not be gay, but I'm very open-minded, and I can honestly say this peace sends a powerful message, and I think you couldn't have done better.

But this is really cool(:

Weeelll... All global issues are to some extent, but here in our school gay rights go rather undefended, and we had two world peace and three global warming prints done in our class... Sorry for the generalization No harm done?

Thank you~ And my hands were in danger a couple of times, but I survived with a scare, thank goodness. The tools are sharp and the wood unpredictable...

Lol I see XD In my school it was way OVERdone, like that was the ONLY thing anyone cared about. As soon as you brought up global issues it was "GAY RIGHTS!!" and I was like *sigh* -.- How about the sex slave industry and the 9 year old girls that get shipped off for it, or civil rights in third-world countries, or environmental problems like the fact that our rain-forests are being desertified and we're out-stripping our natural resources? ._. And now I'm babbling, so I will stop because it is true that no harm was done XD
But it is a very cool print I like it!
I have only ever carved linoleum, and that was.....dangerous >.< lol

CrazyInso In reply to artgeek99 [2011-06-22 12:38:08 +0000 UTC]

Haha, yeah I guess it's partly because we're in China, and these kinds of things are almost taboo. Most people in our school don't accept rainbow people. But anyway, I wouldn't put any global issue above others, I think they're all very important in their own ways. I just happened to choose gay rights... Haha, I tend to babble too XD
And thank you again~ Haha, It's a matter of how careful you are~

This is a very beautiful message you are sending, I don't see why others treat couples or people differently based on their sexual orientation, they are people too. I dismiss anyone who say its wrong because 'it wasn't what God sought to have happen', I'm not discriminating christians, but, how would ANYONE know what God would want? Hiding behind such a excuse is sickening, love is love, I find myself to be more comfortable around girls, talk about the same issues without being judged.

It's a beautiful message, and you personified it well. Great work.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CrazyInso In reply to AriannaTheKeybearer [2011-06-20 01:03:04 +0000 UTC]

Thank you~ I fully agree with you. I'm a very open person (lucky in that way) and don't really see any reason to discriminate anyone, no matter if they're gay, black or Japanese, or all that at the same time. I also agree on the christianity thing. You are right, how can anyone know what God set out to do? How can people know he didn't create the possibility of having a different sexual orientation on purpose?! Of course, people in the Bible say being gay is bad, but I imagine none of these people are Jesus or God himself. Furthermore, the Bible states everyone is equal to God. I'd rather believe Jesus than the rest, but I'm not very religious anyway.
I'm comfortable talking with anyone really, but only if I know they're open minded...

And thank you~~~ It did take time to figure out how to set the design... :3

AriannaTheKeybearer In reply to CrazyInso [2011-06-20 01:11:22 +0000 UTC]

I'm not very religious either, it served its purpose when I needed to find my way as a child, but I'm pretty sure I know what I believe in now, I haven't had many things to disprove or sway those beliefs.

I appreciate those who are open minded, being able to see multiple views and not argue over different beliefs, its just silly quarrels that show how mature some people really are, you don't need to accept a belief, you just need to acknowledge other people's beliefs and opinions. Often listening to others help me form my own, so I listen first.

CrazyInso In reply to AriannaTheKeybearer [2011-06-20 06:31:13 +0000 UTC]

I agree. I hate when someone states that my beliefs are wrong or that their's are better than mine, although it's only a matter of opinion and perspective. We should all have freedom to believe what we want. And it's always good to listen first, and listen honestly~ I hope you keep it up! People appreciate that a lot, and I'm sure people like talking to you.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AriannaTheKeybearer In reply to CrazyInso [2011-06-20 17:26:53 +0000 UTC]

I'd like to think so, but often, when I'm used to talking to someone so honestly, I'm often oblivious to the times when people AREN'T honest with me, that they are actually telling lies, and thats when it hurts the most. My friends on dA are the ones I can be honest with, I can't trust many of those in my school or at the public high school, people need to stop taking trust for granted.

CrazyInso In reply to AriannaTheKeybearer [2011-06-22 12:40:16 +0000 UTC]

Yes... That's a thing I dislike about modern society (well, society in general). We can't trust everyone, although in my opinion, everyone should be able to trust everyone. I'm kind o hippie, but that's my way of thinking. And I hope you meet trustworthy people in your life~ They're very important :3

Thank you~ The message is important to me and many others, and I'm not so sure about my skill XD But thank you <3 And carving woodblocks, it is easy to mess up, you can see where I accidentally popped out bits of hand there, but I still liked it more than linoleum, it's more lively in a way. If you ever get the chance, try~ and remember to work slow and careful, then unwanted bits are less likely to pop out :3
