It was a good day out. I really must see if I can get down there again.
A woman I know, went in with the wolves when they were pup's, but the waiting list was so long, by the time we got our visit, they were a yr old. I thought we'd missed the chance to go in with them. Then, at the end of the day, whilst we were taking some final shots, they suddenly offered to let us go in. It was fantastic and topped off a brilliant day.
Check out my journal from the time. [link]

Yeah. When i went in with them. We'd come back from doing a walk with the North Americans.
They said we could go in with them, it was awesome. Getting a face licking just made my day!

Yep, it was a brilliant day, topped off by going in the enclosure.
They did say that it is very much down to the mood of the Wolves, on the day. I guess you were just unlucky, shame. Someone else I know went in with them, when they were very young, last summer. We've had to wait since then for the booking and all the time I was thinking, that they're getting older and older and that the chance was slipping away, to go in. I don't think we'll be able to do this for much longer.
The weather was OK, but not that good for photo's. The sun only came out for these last few shots. Good timing on that though.
Unfortunately I had to push the ISO right up again, to 1600, just to get the speed to 500 to 1,000. A lot of the shots were in the woods with all of us moving aswell. It's a pain. Instead of putting up a lot of photo's at once, I have to mess around with everyone, to get rid of the noise.
Why did you have to pay £100? I think we only paid £50 for the membership. I bet you did it through an outside group. I did a cat one like that. The bloke was charging £75 each, we got 3 of us for £100, as it was the last minute. When I looked up the place later on, you could book direct for only £25 each. The bloke didn't do any tuition either, so there was no advantage.
I have considered the possibility of organising a group myself, through people on DA, to keep the costs down, but it's only a thought atm.

Awesome!
That shutter speed seems rather fast. As a rule of thumb, select a shutter speed that matches your zoom, in other words, if your using a 300mm telephoto lense and you are at the long end. Then you need a shutter speed of 300-400th of a second.
I paid 100quid as I was doing a full days photography, did you ask to see the photography enclosure?

I've heard that before, but with moving things I like to have it on at least 500. I know anything above this is not really necessary, but I find, in the past when I keep adjusting it down, suddenly the light has changed and I've gone way below 500.
It's OK when I have more time to adjust it, but on day's like this, where we're moving about a lot. I played safe. If I was more familiar with the camera, adjustments wouldn't take too long.
Next time I go to the Zoo, I'm going to try out some better quality settings, for sure.

Thanks, They were wanting to play, but weren't allowed. Too many strangers in the enclosure and safety prevailed.

It was best. Unlike dogs, they will keep testing you, and if you give in , then they have dominance over you.
There was one unfortunate girl, that had to be removed from the enclosure because one of the Wolves just wouldn't stop jumping up at her. It was pushing it more and more each time, so they had to be safe about it. She was about 5' tall, yet there was a little girl of about 12 in there too, which they didn't bother so much. So it wasn't just about picking the easiest target. As with any animal, they sense things we don't, so maybe she was more nervous than the rest.

That is very true!! My aunt was a conservationist and she took in three Timber wolf Teenagers (as she called them ^_^) when I was around 14 or 15. All they did, all day, was jump up and nip at her fingers or any article of clothing she had on. That is, until, she had enough of the nipping and used her hands as a mouth and gripped them around the nape of their necks and pushed them down to the ground while growling... Eventually, they just followed her obediantly(sp?)
But, that girl probably had the scent of someone who thought they were "higher" than themselves! ^..^

Trouble is, for obvoius reasons, we were not allowed to push the Wolves away ourselves, but this doesn't help when being challenged.
It's true what you say. The people there said that unlike dogs, Wolves will continually challenge you, all their lives. Continually re-establishing the pecking order.
They were doing that same thing, pushing them down and growling. That is how I used to discipline my Dogs aswell, when they were younger. I just worked it out and it seemed to work. I thought , how are they disciplined naturally my their parents. It's great because it gets the message across very well and no one gets hurt. Not that I would hurt them, but sometimes a light wrap on the hind quarters might be the alternative.

The thing with wolves, that I've always loved when hanging around my Aunt's pups, is that they don't hold much of a grudge... Depending on your tone of voice or body language, one pop on the bum usually is good enough for a discipline! ^..^

Exactly, it's all in the tone and manner which it is done. It is the gesture not the hardness that counts.

I know. It always amazes me just exactly what they do pick up, even being aware of it.
At the end of my hall way, I can turn left into the living room or turn right to go upstairs. Every single time I walk from my kitchen to this point, the dogs just know which way I'm going, before I get there. They have over-taken me before I get there, lol.
