Description Crimson Valkyrie - Prime Universe

Codex Entry - Alaria Frostbane

Hailing from the frozen wastes in the far northern regions of the realm of Asgard, Alaria Frostbane is one of Asgard's mightiest warriors and most powerful Valkyries. While details of her birth and lineage remain mysterious and unknown, her incredible potential as a skilled warrior was recognized at a very young age by Valora Stormwind, who at the time was second in command of Asgard's Valkryie Legions. Upon the approval of Lady Sif herself, Valora took Alaria under her wing and taught her the finer aspects of combat, while serving as a mother figure that Alaria had never had in her life. The two forged a strong bond throughout their training together, and Alaria came to look upon Valora as her mother, while Valora in turn considered Alaria the daughter she had never had. Over the decades, Alaria's powers and abilities continued to grow, until the only Valkyries that were stronger and more skilled than her were Valora and Lady Sif. In addition to being incredibly strong and durable, she was also completely resistant to drastic temperature changes, and exhibited the power to control ice, wind, and snow. Many younger Valkyries who wanted to prove themselves would accompany Alaria on dangerous quests into the frozen northern regions of Asgard, searching for lost artifacts and legendary snow wolves whose existence was only spoken of in Asgardian legends of old.

Despite her power and bravery, Alaria still remained a humble warrior, which endeared her to many. She was always training and reading texts of lore, searching for ways to continually improve herself and those around her. When Valora Stormwind was banished from the great, Alaria went through drastic changes as she lost her mentor and mother figure. The legendary warrior found herself torn between her allegiance to Asgard and her feelings for her closest friend. Part of her saw flaws and problems with Odin's decision to banish Valora and separate her twin daughters, but she was steadfast in her duty to Lady Sif and her sister Valkyries. Thankfully events conspired to allow Valora to stay in Asgard, though she was forced into exile, taking up residence on a forgotten mountain peak where she was destined to wander the frozen wilds with her two new wolf companions, forbidden from entering the great city. Alaria was distraught for several weeks following these events, and went on her own quest to figure out her place in all of the madness. Wandering on her own for several weeks, she returned to Asgard a changed woman, her kind and warm attitude replaced with a more silent and stoic front. Given her prowess and skill, she was made Valora's replacement, and found herself now the second in command of the Valkyries, answering only to Lady Sif herself.

Wanting to honor her mentor's legacy, Alaria sought out Valora's daughter Lianna Stormwind, and took her under her wing to teach her the ways of the Valkyries. Lianna was eager, but also very young and stubborn, which led to much frustration for Alaria, especially when Lianna began to develop magical abilities that no other Valkyrie had ever exhibitied. While Lianna was a strong warrior, she was not nearly as skilled as her other sisters, often using her sorcery as a crutch to gain an advantage in training and in battle, while also showing blatant disregard for the collateral damage her magical powers could cause. This would prove to be her downfall when the evil dark elf sorceress Mallara Darkmoon sensed Lianna's great powers and had Loki begin to plant the seeds of corruption in her young mind. Alaria was devastated when her apprentice betrayed her and her fellow sisters and defected to Mallara's side, the former Valkyrie soon showing up on Earth where she helped Loki prepare the Earth realm for Mallara's eventual take over bid. Lady Sif consoled her second in command the best she could, but it was clear that Lianna's betrayal had changed Alaria, who distanced herself from her subordinates and fellow sisters, feeling as if she had failed both them and her mentor Valora by losing her daughter to the forces of evil. Around this time Freyja managed to convince Odin to lift Valora Stormwind's exile, though the mighty Valkyrie chose to remain in self imposed exile atop Stormwind Peak. Alaria would eventually visit her former mentor, who consoled her over the loss of Lianna and encouraged her to continue on despite her failure.

Alaria would get a chance to redeem herself when Valora's other daughter, an Earth bound scientist named Tiffany Anderson, was brought to Asgard and given her birthright as a Valkyrie. Tiffany had been split apart from Lianna after the two were born, with Lianna being dubbed the stronger of the two and allowed to stay in Asgard to be trained as a Valkyrie, while Tiffany was abandoned to Earth. Over the years Tiffany had grown into an incredibly intelligent woman, becoming a brilliant scientist and a super hero when events beyond her control conspired to give her special abilities. Though her Asgardian genetics and abilities had been magically sealed by Odin when she was sent to Earth, a great act of heroism convinced the goddess Freyja to bring Tiffany to Asgard, where she revealed her birthright and unsealed her abilities, granting her new powers and strength. Tiffany became the Crimson Valkyrie and Lady Sif saw it fit to allow Alaria to train her. Though Tiffany had been a super hero on Earth, relying mostly on her cunning and intelligence, in addition to a plethora of scientific gadgets, she was raw and undeveloped when it came to the areas of strength and power. At first Alaris was skeptical that the beautiful redhead could become a Valkyrie, and she also couldn't help but see shades of Lianna in Tiffany, especially when it came to her stubborn nature.

Alaria reluctantly took Tiffany under her wing and began to teach her the ways of the Valkyries, while also training her in combat. She was steadfast and sometimes even cruel in her training methods, pushing Tiffany to her limits physically while constantly pointing out her weaknesses and faults. The only thing that kept Alaria from being downright hostile to her new charge, was the fact that she knew Tiffany was Valora's other daughter, though this was a fact she kept hidden from her understudy. Despite her best efforts to push Tiffany away from her, Alaria was shocked at the young redhead's stubbornness and desire to prove herself. Though she bristled at times, Tiffany took all of Alaria's teachings to heart and matched her instructor's toughness, even surprising her in battle when she nearly managed to topple her for a brief moment during one of their final spars. As the pair continued to train, Alaria eventually let down her guard and fully took Tiffany under her wing, taking her on a special quest through the frozen wilds to fully get to know her. While Lianna had rejected her training and embraced the side of evil, Alaria could truly see that Tiffany was Valora's daughter, and believed that Odin had made a grave mistake when he had allowed Lianna to stay in Asgard while banishing Tiffany to Earth and an unknown fate.

It was a surprisingly tearful farewell when Alaria sent Tiffany back to Earth to become the Crimson Valkyrie, promising to always be there for her as a sister and mentor, the new heroine having helped her rediscover her kind and nurturing nature. Alaria would watch with great pride as Tiffany put her newfound powers to use protecting the innocent people of the Earth realm, while also watching her grow into her role as Freyja's herald and representative on Earth. Her protective side would emerge later when Tiffany fell in love with a young woman named Ashley Coleson, who was also a fellow super hero known to the Earth realm as Silver Falcon. When Ashley first visited Asgard with Tiffany, Alaria proved to be an over-protective sister and put Ashley through a series of trials and tests to judge if her love was genuine and to prove if she was a worthy partner for her dear sister and Valora's daughter. Like Tiffany, Ashley surprised Alaria with her tenacity and toughness, and she could sense her deep love for Tiffany through their interactions. The two had a rather intense spar where Alaria physically pushed Ashley to her limits, and was shocked when Ashley nearly defeated her, remarking that she hadn't been hit quite as hard or come that close to being beaten in well over two-hundred years. She apologized to Ashley for initially judging her and gave her blessing to their relationship, going so far as to convince Freyja to name Ashley an honorary Valkyrie and Tiffany's Shield Maiden.

Watching Tiffany and Ashley's exploits from afar convinced Alaria to go back to her old mentoring ways, and she threw herself into her role as Lady Sif's second in command with new vigor and a much warmer and gentler attitude. Tiffany had helped heal her scars of failure with Lianna, and Alaria hoped that she could someday find a way to return the favor, wanting nothing more than to reunite Valora Stormwind with her lost daughters. Little did she know that the pieces were slowly falling into place, and that a grand conflict on a scale Asgard hadn't seen in eons would soon give her the opportunity to make that wish a reality.

Thanks, going to be going back and adding in a bit more interaction with her and Tiffany in the original "Rebirth" story arc, so those will probably be updated and posted soon.

I've enjoyed Alaria's appearances so far (in Crimson Valkryie's origin story and Shield Maiden). She's tough and an amazing fighter (I'm not sure Mindy would want to be on the opposite side of a fight against her ) but she's also kind and very protective of her little sister and her little falcon. It's nice how the addition of Tiffany and Ashley into her life changed her perspective.

And when the War comes, whomever gets in Alaria's way is going to be in big trouble.

Oh I'm sure she'd go easy on Mindy...well probably not, but she would surely respect her for a tough fight afterward...

It's going to be kind of fun to show a bit of her story along the way.

Leave it to Tiffany to heal even the “ahem” frostiest of hearts by just being herself

I wouldn't say Alaria's heart is frosty, she's just duty bound, but has also been through a lot of hard times in her own life that have made her adopt a tougher personality.

True true, but Tiffany gets her to open up and readopt a more caring persona, kind of like how she does for Byakuya in the Shadowverse

There are a lot of things on Alaria's mind, mostly weighing her down is she's been entrusted with both of Valora's children, and having already lost one to the darkness, she's going to be as tough and hard on Tiffany as she can be in order to keep her on the right path. Little does she know she doesn't have much to do in that department...

I'll actually be revamping the current Origin stories for CV, at least as it pertains to the Asgard parts, to reflect a lot of this growth.

I think I was touched by the journey she had from where she started training Tiffany as a Valkyrie, gruff and standoffish, but then being sad to see her go when they finished.

Part of it is that she knows Lianna is Tiffany's sister and that she lost her to darkness, the other part is her not wanting to repeat that mistake. She pushes Tiffany because she sees a lot of her mother in her and Valora was such a huge part of Alaria's life she has vowed she will drill everything she knows into Tiffany if it kills her, hehe. Will be nice once we get through the War in Asgard arc and people can start coming together again. Lots of fun stories to be told.
