Funny, since berserk comes from an old Scandinavian word meaning "Bear shirt".

not sure if intentional, but the work "berserk" actually does come from the word for bear. Berserkers used to wear bearskin, hence the name

Ironically a true representation, Since according to legend, many of these Viking warriors would wear these animal skins, mostly bears, and would acquire those powers of the animal they wear and that helps them feel more powerful.

I'm told that "berserker" literally means "bear-shirt." Apparently, it has something to do with champions wearing bear fur clothes as a symbol of their station. The notion of drunk guys who rushed recklessly into battle is a load of rubbish, just like the horned helmets that Vikings never actually wore.
Seriously, drunk people do not make effective soldiers.
