I thought this was Moltres at first. Magmar always reminded me of a duck to be honest.

It's odd because if you look at the design and put a picture of Magmar right next to it, you see elements of Magmar in this design. The broken chain cuffs in particular is a really nice interpretation. Just something about it doesn't work. (in terms of it being Magmar anyways; from a standalone standpoint this picture is quite lovely and your style of rendering scales and fire is always divine)
I think it's mainly a case of the silhouettes being too radically different. And turning Magmar into a full-on bird-like creature when it's more of a humanoid/reptilian design with a random beak.
But this series has been completely and consistently awesome so far so running into a minor hitch and learning from the mistake is completely understandable and plus it's kind of educational to see the end results of such mistakes. (the Machamp line comes to mind, where you tweaked it and the second attempt came out so much better.)
