Description
(PLEASE NOTE: This is one of my older drawings from a few years ago. The current design of the Piasa Bird is slightly different now.
SIDE NOTE: This character is based on an actual legend passed down from the Illini Native Americans who originated from the area that would become Illinois)
The Piasa Bird was a horrible flying monster that terrorized Native Americans of the Illini tribes for many years until she was defeated thanks to the bravery and wisdom of Chief Ouatoga who used himself as bait to lure the beast into a trap where 20 braves fired poison arrows into her weak spot causing her to fall into and be carried off by the Mississippi River never to be seen again.
The Illini celebrated believing their hated enemy dead and created a mural of it in memory of the story (the original of which no longer exists but has been remade in Alton). Unknown to them the Piasa Bird was still alive. Despite being greatly weakened from the poison she was able to pull herself from the water and took refuge in a nearby cave, entering a state of deep hibernation to heal. 400 years later the Piasa Bird awakens again and sets out to get revenge for her humiliating defeat. Starting with the mural which she sees as a mockery of her.
