I'm happy with just about everything except for the dust cloud >.>; ah well, I tried redoing it quite a few times.So, I'm in a class called AP art portfolio where you gotta do alota different art shits to put together and submit in lieu of an AP test for a 1-5 score. Part of it is a 12-piece "concentration" section where you make alota art around one topic. I was thinking Steampunk for the topic. 'A' If ya don't know much about it, go look it up on wikipedia then watch Last Exile. maybe twice.
Anyway, this is my first time drawing a mech-type thing so go easy on me please T_T I ended up redrawing him alot while inkin in illustrator >.>;
This was also one of the most tedious things I've CGed. I hope the effort was well spent? 'A'
BTW, the submission process for the AP portfolio thing freaking sucks. Even digital works are required to be submitted as 35mm film, which we can't even get developed in our town. So I have to print the picture out, take a picture of it, ship the film off to Austin, and get it back to submit. T_T I may bother to go to Staples or something to have these printed.
EDIT: Because old people don't know what steampunk is, my art teacher decided I should call the set something else. I decided on "fantasy and machinery", which she said was okay. So I guess I can have some more variety like that anyway mebbe?

tell people to go watch 'steamboy' it's all steampunk, and i really want to see it.
i love the steampunk genre and style. the dusty tones in the colors and how weathered everything looks. samuari 7 has steampunk qualities too

I think it might be better for you to call it fatasy and machinery anyway, because it leaves you with a lot more freedom for design. Like, many in-depth fans of steampunk will probably argue that your big robot there is too clean, curved and maybe hi-tech-looking for true steampunk, which usually implies uncovered internal mechanisms, bolts and wires and tubes sticking out everywhere, and tons of other stuff that clutter up and are very hard to draw. D;
You're luckyyyyy. I wanna take an AP class, but the place here that gives it is kinda fancy and snub, and I don't have the money for it. ;_;

The mecha and the girl are very well drawn, but my only complaint would be the lack of depth. It would look less scrambled if the robot was less saturated, more opaque. Maybe having a layer of the same color as the dust over the robot would make it look a little more far away than the girl, cause it's a bit confusing like this. Otherwise it's great

I really liked the mech... But, ya that AP thing sounds stupid. To be that picky is almost retarded. I think I remember one of my senior friends doing that while I was a freshman, though, I remember someone complaining to my Latin teacher about something like that.

I fecking hated not being able to send a digital portfolio. Taking slides is a pain in the ass.
Good luck though. The scores on the AP portfolios are a real crapshoot-- I lucked out and got a 4, but I know a lot of people who are a lot better than me who got like 2s and stuff. Ridiculous.

This is pretty awesome! The mech looks good, especially for a first time. :0 And the dust isn't bad at all. It sorta fits with the style, methinks.
Hm... I don't know much about Steampunk, but I do like the style of it all. :3 I think it'd be fun to do a buncha pics around it.
