Wow, I dug up an old image...I was looking through my art stuffs and happened to find this little comic strip, which was scripted by someone who posted on the GameFAQs message board. I was curious of SOA Legends at the time, so I wanted to check out some impressions on the game.
Supposedly, people were outraged that Gamespot gave SoaL a 7.00 or somewhere around there. I don't particularly care about or read Gamespot reviews, but the post was too funny to not be made into a comic strip. The beginning line in the comic strip is actually a variation of what the GameFAQs poster UltimateSonicFan wrote. Just replace the phrase "people who dislike Skies of Arcadia" with Gamespot, and that was what the original post was like. I changed it because I thought the using the name Gamespot was too narrow, and because I don't hold any ill-will or any praises for Gamespot anyway.
Done in Photoshop 1.29.2003. Skies of Arcadia and all related characters are the property of Sega/OverWorks.

Oh my gosh.... the characters in SoA were SOOOO much more refreshing than the tragic-past types in other games.... "Oh I'm an orphan!" 
It's just nice to play as a character who just has a normal home to go to, and a nice Mom always there waiting for him, while Dad's downstairs overseein' the family business.

Everytime I replay Legends It takes me back. When games were more about the story telling and development of the characters instead of HD graphics and 'better' combat. Not that Im complaining about it, I enjoy getting Fish Kills in TF2, but for RPGs' now I don't get that nastalgic feeling again. Guess im old school when it comes to RPGs

Skies of Arcadia is and will always be an amazing game that has its own respect and right to be called a great game! Thanks to all those that don't give in to the negativity that is half the society now a days. Be cool stay in school and remember "He who smelt it dealt it" XD

I love 'Skies of Arcadia'. I love the hugeness of Arcadia, the well-told story, and the total immersion. Of course, it's not the perfect game, what with the voice acting and incredibly tedious amounts of random encounter turn-based combat, but it's everything that Final Fantasy games these days are not (including the good graphics, but this is the Gamecube we're talking about). And let's remember: this was ten years ago. Imagine what would happen if someone tried something like this again. It would be the most epic thing ever.

But Vyse is awesome the way he is. That's why the even put him, Aika, and Fina in Valkyria Chronicles.
Seriously, the storyline just adds to the fun. Making Vyse angsty is like making Cats howl at the moon.

The reason why I like Vyse is that he's the opposite of those whiny-angsty heroes you typically find in RPGs.

Is Vyse disputated? Aika is ripping her shirt, and Fina's having Vyse's baby... as you may know, once Aika kissed Vyse, right before the battle of Soltis.

Darn right! I just got finished playing this game again and I love how upbeat it is.
One of my favorite lines from Vyse is "Two Air Pirates, a Silvite, a couple of crazy old men, a snot-nosed brat and an airsick prince? Valua doesn't stand a chance!"
The game was fun, and it knew it was having fun. I'm pulling for a sequel, just because we need more RPGs like this.

Too funny for words. I love this game! You're a bunch of happy-go-lucky pirates off to save the world from a power-hungry maniac and his angst-bishie lapdog, using a super war-ship packing major heat. What more could anyone want?

Yeah though, SoA has a godly cast. I especially like Vyse, and I have a habit of disliking main characters. Lloyd Irving, for instance. ToS was a wonderful game, but Lloyd is... a noob, to put it lightly. On the contrary, Vyse never lets anything get him down. Hometown getting trashed, getting thrown in jail multiple times, fighting titanic living engines of destruction with a pimped-out fishing boat, getting stranded alone on a deserted island, having his ass auto-handed to him by Ramirez TWICE...
Speaking of whom, Ramirez is the game's dose of angst, but he's the crazy kind which is fun and awesome.
Pretty much the only time I winced at this game though was at Fina's 'Let us be thankful for our safety' end quote. But she's sheltered, can't blame the poor thing.

You commented that on 1 January 2008? I was close two wish happy birthday to your comment and a Happy New Year to you too. But it's too late. But I would like to say that me too, I don't like very much main characters. Unless they lose sometimes. But in SoA it happens, when meeting Ramirez in Nasrad and Crescent Isle. Actually, Ramirez raid to Crescent Isle is made on purpose to lose: I found a way to restore the energy and keeping the warriors alive, but even the special move "Prophecy" does nothing to him. Ramirez is a bit too psychotic to my likes. my favourite villain is Galcian. But it's funny that the final boss is not the archenemy, but his vice.
It was exciting the sequence about the escape from the Grand Fortress, but there was a non-sense: How would the soldiers put them in prison without taking their weapons?
My favourite part is, however, the battle of Soltis. But... couldn't they show the ships fighting on a cutscene? Just the battle against two secondary ships and the Hydra.

I like the up-beatness of the game/characters. It was nice to have a game where most of the characters weren't whiney emo bishes who constantly cried about the past. Why do people enjoy that...?

Haha, it's so true. Personally, I like the light-heartedness of the game. I find it to be quite inspiring, actually. It makes it different from all those dramatic, depressing Final Fantasy character backstories o.O

They rated the original 9.1 or so and rated the remake 7.00, apparently just because it didn't have HUGE quantities of new content.

I wouldn't call it optimistic. Sure, the way the Black Pirates' personal issues are solved very awkwardly fast makes me want to throw my eardrums out the window, but a lot of people die, including Ramirez (who I would've kept alive), but they let him rest in peace in a way that made me not care that not everyone could be saved. Yes, it is light in tone and that alone places it about a lot of other JRPGs that follow the same patterns as that comic.
And yes, 'Skies of Arcadia' really did feel me with ecstasy.
