How do you get the lighting like this? e.g. the blacks are kind of faded.

i used a macro lens for that hence the blurring

Amazing composition.
The amount of negative space with the hair, and the tilt of her head makes it appear that there is a sonic boom.

This is powerfully suggestive. I really do get the strong impression of someone sensing something that she can't quite define here, or that happened too quickly for her to identify, or that startled her. The solitary floating strands of hair are a wonderful defining touch.
