Description I almost didn't upload this one, but decided to in the end. I've had the sketch sitting on my hard drive for almost 6 months anyway, so it's nice to finally get that out of the way! While very unfinished, it was good for some color practice before I take on some other stuff. And hey, any practice is great to have!

Just a rough painting of Undyne sitting by a creek, reflecting on her old position as head of the Royal Guard. I'm sure letting go of that role wouldn't have been easy given how whole-heartedly she dedicated herself to it, but there's no doubt she'd bounce back with a whole new sense of purpose.

Her pose, looking in to the eyes of her helmet, reminds me of Hamlet holding the skull of Yorick...Both contemplating a happy life--their own--now passed away.  Yet even as Hamlet felt the the intensity of sadness and despair, the undeniable intensity of Undyne's expression is unreadable.  Every emotion, joy, wistfulness, regret, and hope, can briefly be seen on her countenance.  Her hand rests on her spear, now thrust in to the mud; another part of her old life, now idle; almost discarded.  A complicated interpretation of a character in a complicated moment.  Beautiful work on the setting, too.

It is not a perfect image, but it is still a beautiful one, and one that you were incredibly generous to have shared.  Much like your writing, in this you are willing to show us something wonderful that you have created, yet something that you still feel somewhat vulnerable about...And as with your writing, it is is something that I feel touched and privileged to have witnessed.

You always have such a powerful way with words; you captured the moment far more effectively than myself!

And as always, thank you. While I do have many ideas similar to this stored away, I rarely publish or even fully draw them out, with the reason being that I often feel that my current skills are inadequate to appropriately convey what it is I want to share. This one in particular was one that more strongly urged me to do something with it, so after so long I finally put it out there. While still below the standards I wish for it, it is still satisfying to have finally brought it into a more tangible state, and comforting that you guys support it nonetheless.

You are far too kind, and I fear your compliment has reduced me to an inarticulate mess!

I think I can kind of understand, perhaps, at least in a very small way...If you will forgive the analogy, is it something like baking a spectacular cake, where the experiments should be hidden, lest they mar the surprise and joy of seeing the final result?  (No idea why I referenced cake here.)  I can appreciate that; though as a fan of the myriad of ideas you have, I am grateful that you are willing to give us an occasional peek at those concepts and scenes you have stored away!  (Though, even seeing your preliminary thoughts would be a source of great joy.  And squeeing.  Lots and lots of squeeing.)

That is a surprisingly effective analogy, and a delicious one at that! (Mmmm, now I kinda' want cake...)

It honestly would be my pleasure to share with you some of the ideas bouncing around inside my skull. Heck, I actually have a physical list of stuff that I intent to explore further in the future! Before starting on them I do need to finish set of projects that I've been slowly whittling away at before I move on to a new set of projects. Until then, though, I might just end up doing rough exploratory drawings of some of them!
