Description this is the first i'll be putting up.
shot in the St. Germain des pres in the 6th. the famous le deux magots.

love it that she didn't catch me ...

ilford delta 400, 60th ... maybe 4.0.

didn't really note my exposures ... just ballparks.

This is simply a beautiful photo.
Leica has this magic spell cast on me. I have never used one. It's artists like you who give that camera an even better symbolism and increase my craving. Too bad I'm so broke.

I think I love Ilford most off all out of all the film I have shot with. You get the perfect tonal range and the blacks are so nice. I really love how she is just so into thinking that she dosn't see this man sitting (or standing) there taking this. I'm sure you just placed it at your hip or something to be more discrete. In any case I love this one.

Great shot, love the fact that her expression is natural. She doesn't know the photo was being taken.
Sneaky bastard.

What really gets me is the low point of view.
Classic and wonderful work, mate.

you should post a journal of stories of if and how people caught you and wanted to wring your neck.

whenever I see shots like this I regret that I wasn't into photography when I was in Paris. the more I look at your work the more I'm convienced that saving for a leica is a good idea.

saving for one is an excellent idea. get an m6 from the 1980's. a 35/2.0 (3rd or 4th generation) ... perhaps $1400 for both.

i just helped a friend get the exact ... actually 3 friends now ... get the exact setup for the above price and they're loving them.

just picked up a 1957 M3-double stroke. ah ... amazing.

hope to see you shoooting with a leica one day!

cheers love.

MildInsomnia In reply to cweeks [2005-09-12 04:46:52 +0000 UTC]

yes, I’ve been looking at the m6 and the bessa r3a/r2a which take m mounts. I've been leaning towards the bessa because of price and that I can buy it new with a warranty but I'm still undecided. although, if I get a leica than it won't depreciate in value and is quieter than the bessa. yeah, I really need to find a dealer in my area that has both cameras so I can get a feel for them. Any experience with bessas?

I'm hoping to get it around Christmas before I take off to travel.

thanks much.

cweeks In reply to MildInsomnia [2005-09-12 09:41:33 +0000 UTC]

yes, tried out the bessas. they're very nice. i mean, really, cameras are boxes that expose film. it's all about the glass. that being said there are things that i like about my m's but i'm more interested in the m-glass.

why buy local. [link] ships all over the world.

i hope you get one before your travels as well.

cheers,
chris

MildInsomnia In reply to cweeks [2005-09-12 13:30:58 +0000 UTC]

my thoughts exactly, its all about the glass. I really want a leica but if a bessa can do the job at a fraction of the price, why not.

thanks for the link. I'll let you know how it goes.

take care,

Sara

a new body is almost $4000 grand now. i'm finished with new bodies. i have plenty for my purposes.

a used nice summicon 35 is not that bad. in fact, i think that with a bessa body (which has a better rangefinder base number than m's) ... is a great combination!

let me know ... totally ... tell stephen you know me!

cheers,
chris

this is so.... paris.

love how the bokeh slightly reveals the parisian architecture in the background..

contrasted well against the leaves in the trees.. and of course the woman sipping her perrier.

i havent seen this before.

thanks! i love being sneaky with a rangefinder. when you make the educated guess as to exposure and focus ...

and it turns out.

the blur ... that's what addicted me to the leica.
