Description twas in the pavilions "in the bank" as ~londn calls that hood. twas with chocolate girl.

hunting for chocolate. twas late.

and ... i saw this old guy replete with his wartime-navy-serving tatts.

i stalked him. chocolate girl thought it was cool. i know so many girls that would have said, "what the fuck are you doing?" and bolted. not choco.

i caught up with "him" in the bakery. i didn't even want anything in the bakery. the donuts looked especially good though.

he told me he was in ww2. in the navy. that's where he did all of his tatts. he said his tatts used to look much better when he was younger.

but ... i saw this guy as someone would have seen him in the forties.

i saw it in his eyes.

he thought chocolate girl was cute.

yes, i saw it in his eyes.

DON'T LEAVE YOUR FUCKING CAMERAS AT HOME.

trust me on this.

Wonderful picture!

I showed my roommate and said, "Wow, I love this picture."
She replied, "Ok, why?"
"Well...It's just great, I love it." (I couldn't think of a way to explain)
She gave me that, 'If you say so' look, then said "I guess it's pretty cool." and walked back to her desk.

I was so disappointed that she didn't see what I see when looking at it.

Beautiful capture.

I absolutely love this! This image represents the American Badassery that I so admire from the greatest generation. His tattoos are in such great condition for being that old! Usually I see vietnam vets with Sailor Jerry tattoos but they're not near in that great of a condition.

This is just so beautiful.
Just a perfect shot, all around.
I also love when black and white pictures impress me, because it's rare. But this is definitely one that does exactly that.

Also
My grandfather was in the Navy in WWII.

I love learning all i can about the Last Great War, because it was in fact, the last war that we we're actually fighting for what was right...what was sacred. Not like today, where we only fight to preserve our "precious" economic interests overseas....its sickening really to think that there are men dying in Iraq right now for nothing more than a police action in a country that would much rather destroy itself than accept our help. How much i long to travel back in time to those great days, when life was a thrill, and there was never a dull moment. You could hang out at the dance club and have bar fights, and you could joyride in your 1940's oldsmobile, or Chevy Belle Aire! I wish i could go back to those times...the soldiers on the front lines, the nonstop action where the enemy is practically in your face! Omg! to be in the very thick of it all...to fly a P-51 Mustang....those were the greatest times America ever had, and its a shame that those times of thrill and freedom have since deteriorated so badly.

He's like, "So I had that Nazi bastard RIGHT HERE, and..."

There is a particular characteristic in all of your work that makes me wish I could favorite the whole damn gallery. It's your keen sense of managing to get a near-perfect to flawless composition even in the most impromptu of shots; everything from the angles to the lighting (especially in your b/w work) makes me want to stare at these photos for hours, even the ones of the celebrities who I don't even like. Moreover it makes me want to take up photography, despite the fact I can NOT afford it. Good work, sir.

It's great looking at. Almost seems a bit strange... Nowadays, most youth doesn't really think of the "old" as the generation that had to fight in the war.

Lack of respect, as they say?

It's good for waking some ideas, at least. And as you said it: "DON'T LEAVE YOUR FUCKING CAMERAS AT HOME."

I'll have to teach Rebecca that sentence.

I can imagine this "old man" was a tough-as-nails sailor back in the 40s and served proudly in the Navy as probably a carrier deckhand or a gunner's mate in a ship; the stories he could tell us from a time long gone, where men were men and the women were too.

The days of gas rationing, war bonds, Rosie The Riveter and Tokyo Rose; the days of bumpy seas, shore bombardments and sub hunts; of shore leave, fistfights with the Marines and getting thrown in the brig; of a time where boys became men and men became legends.

Very emotive picture that captures the essence of a fighting man that still has it in him.
