In all the photos I've seen of Altman (not many), I have never seen him smile THAT wide.

Great catch, beautiful photograph.

I love the character that show through him in this. Sitting back in a rather old world, peaceful scene, you can just see his creative genius popping through in his face.

I feel so special that he's my relative, who'll I'll never get to meet because he's big and famous and I'm just a no-body teen

"explained the first shot in 'the player' to us."

I thought it was explained in the first shot of The Player... I love that flick. It's way up at the top of the list [link] Did he happen to mention 'Touch of Evil'?

I think this is excellent, not only in the angle and lighting...but more importantly, in capturing that little bit of what is not there, not concrete, not tangible...

By showing us what we cannot see... you've showed us everything.

...and I had no idea who this guy was...I had to google him.

Ow, this is so wonderful. I don't know this person at all, but the perspective has caught the moment so well, it shows a mass of emotion. So much charme and positive energy. The smile of him lets me feel content and smile too. The pictore behind and above him is like the door to a new world - wide, amazing, full of adventure.
But all in all the concept is wonderful and quite touching. *thumb up* :3

Robert Altman. god he's great. "McCabe and Mrs.Miller" one of my all time favourite films. Love the wallpaper and the way the light is coming in at several different places in the photograph.

i really like the old painting and the grinning man under it...ok he's a big shot somebody, but in his eyes is this boyish smile u can only capture so many times. He looks like he has so many story's to tell and would love to share his wisdom and pull a little joke on one or two people while doing that.

Now this guy has a FACE - what a character that shines thru that rueful "pre-smile"
I love the froo-froo of the wallpaper, and the painting behind, it's so....over-the-top, like Altman's movies.
God I wish I had been in your bag hearing him talk

the composition, and pose make the photo very natural, but the black&white tones and contrasts create a masterpiece portrait
