Nice photo! What year was it taken?ย I never got to see them in concert, but came close to the chance years ago.

While I agree with you, I doubt they could have found anyone who looks or sounds as much like Jon. On the new album, I'm excited that Trevor Horn is producing and that his partner from The Buggles, Geoff Downes, will be playing on most of the songs. As you probably know, they were Yes members way back on the Drama album which Rick and Jon sat out. I do like that one, even if it is not their best. Wait until the new album comes out and we shall see...after all, with such talented musicians as Chris Squire and Steve Howe still in the group, I cannot imagine it being a totally a bad album.

Ohh, Drama was so interesting piece of music. : )
Of course, you are right. We need to wait for the new album. I do believe it will be great with David too, because...he is similar to Jon...and this is just YES! It can't be bad! : )

It was in San Diego back in the early 1980's.

Are you sure? Wakeman and Anderson weren't both in the band together during the 1980's. I was so sure that It was taken on the "Going for the One" tour, partly also because of Squires stripy suit, so '77-'78 ish?

To be honest, I am not certain, as I have been lucky enough to go to many Yes concerts, and have smuggled my camera into them all. You may be right, but I am certain it was at the San Diego Sports Arena, if that helps date the shot. I just finished seeing Yes & Asia in Anehiem at the House of Blues, and here in San Diego at Humpherys. I will be posting some of those photos soon...both great shows.

Was this photo taken around 1975-77 ??? it looks like that 'era'

Cyberbear In reply to Gaia-Child3 [2009-03-16 16:26:12 +0000 UTC]
It was taken very early in their career, at The Roxy theater in Pacific Beach, Ca... They were promoting the first self titled album and "Sultans of Swing" was just climbing the record charts. So, yeah... pretty early in their history.. was happy to have been there. Great show.

Wow! They are so young in this photo!!! I love YES (actually they're one of my fave groups) - my generation has turned their back on Prog Rock... i love the complexity of their music and the musicians are phenomenal!!! esp. Steve! wow!!! Thankyou so much for taking this photo, cause my dad would've been to youn to go to this concert!!!
I actually met them when i was 6 or 7 and i remember nearly crying! I really wanted to run up and hug Steve, but he doesn't even shake hands with people.... (well guitar is his life and if a crazy psychopath crushed his hand...) I love this photo, it feels like you're there in the mosh!
Thankyou!

Thanks for your enthusiasm. I am glad you liked it...Yes, that was a performance back when Fragile and Close to The Edge were the hot albums. It was taken at the San Diego Sports arena concert with a Nikon and a 200mm telephoto lensI smuggled in.

Not much chance of camera smuggling into concerts nowadays thogh! Fragile is still one of my faves ( i managed to steal it of my dad after months of harassment!)

Boy, you are a big fan! You should meet my Cub, John...he has most all the albums signed by all the band members; even The Buggles and the various keyboard players and drummers...even the artist who does the covers, Roger Dean...I thought he was the biggest fan, but maybe it is you!

Sorry...no, just still pictures. About the time the stereo Walkman recorder came out, I started recording concerts instead of shooting pictures. I never shot any video or motion picture film; just 35mm slides.
