American Kestrel (Falco sparverius) Male.A lot smaller than the European Kestrel, I was surprised at the difference, this bird is captive bred.

Lovely portrait of one of my favorites. Where I used to live in San Jose California, we had a pair down the street from us (they nested in a neighbor's very tall palm tree!). I loved watching them. For all their small size, they are really feisty. I've seen a pair of American Kestrels drive away a much bigger red-tailed hawk.
