And my second finished illustration this year! It feels soooo good to finish a "big picture", I missed this so much last year ;_;Anyways, I started this during a watercolour demonstration and I'm happy I somehow managed to finish it so quickly after, because if everything goes well I can take prints of this to the MCC in Leipzig! My booth no. is MK 431, and I'll be there together with derylbraun ~ come and say hi to us if you have the time, I'm already really excited!
I've been wanting to draw a proper picture of my OC Ortwin for a while now. The sketch was spontaneous and so it came out different than what I had planned first, but in the end it fits so well and everything came together like it should. I also noticed I tend to draw Ort frontal like this, but it somehow fits him ~ I didn't work on the bottom part so much because I wanted to have it kind of fade into the background. I like how it came out, and I'm beginning to have more and more fun with my illustrations, everything is so exciting! Of course there are a lot of things to do better next time, but I feel like I'm going in a direction where I'm discovering what I really want my stuff to look like.

That fish is just so gorgeous! I love his transparent wing-like fins.
I admire your use of purple; I avoid it for the most part because its just a powerful color, but here it looks so soft and natural

Purple is one of my favourite colurs, I'm glad you like it here! You're right though when you say that it's a powerful colour. I'd like to use it more boldly as a shadow colour sometimes, but it's hard to find the right amount.

Danke dir! Ja, ich find auch, dass es wie Gedärme aussieht XD Stört mich überhaupt nicht, es spricht so ein bissl meine makabere Seite an, deshalb find ichs im Gegenteil sogar ganz nett. Hab mich aber gefragt, ob manche Betrachter das vielleicht etwas eklig finden XD

Looks amazing! I've been looking more at illustration work this year, stuff that inspires and teaches me, and it's really encouraging to see an awesome piece like this which has also been done with traditional media! Most illustrations I love seem to be digital, but traditional media is what I love using. What size is this painting? I've never tried hot press paper before but it seems to have given you some wonderful smooth gradients in the watercolor. Your decision to leave the bottom less worked to allow it to fade was an EXCELLENT decision, also. It gives the whole image a mysterious quality. Keep up the good work!

I can only recommend hot press paper! The one I use not only enables those gradients but also gives the possibility to paint a lot of layers, or lets say, I don't get as much problems when I decide to paint yet another layer. It's a real pleasure to work with.

Es ist wirklich sichtbar, dass du Spass an diesem Bild hattest. Die Verteilung der Values passt super zum TItel und die Ausführung ist dir generell auch sehr gut gelungen. Der Glow über den Händen ist meines Erachtens das kleine Highlight im wahrsten Sinne. Sieht schon fast CG-like aus. Great Job.
