I never cared too much for how this game played, but I LOVED the designs and Jen-Tai was my favorite character.

I think that the reason why so many players didn't like Weaponlord's controls was because most people didn't realize that it wasn't pressing a button that triggered an attack; it was releasing the button that did it. So, for example, you could hold down the C button (which would stop the character from moving or jumping around), do a Half-Circle Back and then release the C button to do Jen-Tai's shield-and-sword combo attack. It made the special attacks tons easier to execute once you knew how the controls worked; if Street Fighter II had had Weaponlord's controls, I would have pulled off Zangief's Spinning Piledriver every single time.
But yeah, if any fighting game deserves a reboot, it's Weaponlord. Namco just has to do a better job of letting the players know exactly how the controls work this time.

I think WeaponLord should one day make a comeback for current generation gaming consoles, despite the fact it'll be (thankfully) remembered as an icon of the 1990s, I also feel that it's moment to rise in the spotlight... just wasn't the right moment to do so yet.
