Fifty years ago today the film 'Kaiju Soshingeki' (better known to us Westerners as 'Destroy All Monsters!') was released; whether it's the best Godzilla movie is debatable, but it is certainly one of the most ambitious and memorable.My favorite part of the movie is actually the very end, showing the monsters living together on the island; there are very few Godzilla movies that could honestly end with the phrase "...and they lived happily ever after" but it seems to sum it up perfectly (of course the monsters spend their free time walloping each other as seen in 'Godzilla's Revenge', but it's their nature).

Were Kumonga and Manda ally kaiju in this film? I never saw it.

They were on the "Earth monsters team", so we can classify them as allies. Kumonga helped string up Ghidorah, and Manda...well, just kinda sat around, but it's the thought that counts!

Thankya very kindly! The monster art here, alas, is something I drew a few years ago for a sketch month challenge (look through my archives/gallery for more), but the background painting and composition was done specifically for DAM's anniversary.

Very cool. And yes, your opening line is very true. While I think the movie is just..."ok", it does have a very very quick flow to it. There is not really a lot of really draggy parts that you would see in the 70's....or the story building convos like in the very early 60's. It just flows quick and easy. Maybe that is why people come back to it a lot.

Thankya! There are a few parts that do feel overlong for me (namely the "burning down the alien machine with the laser thing", which feels even more exasperating thanks to the manic piano score!), but on the whole it's a simple and fun story.
