This is just a WIP (I still have another lovely stallion to draw) but I thought I'd share it with you guys! My current headcanon for Golden Key has undergone revision after revision, but I think I've found one that I'm 100% happy with!

In a little town somewhere unimportant and insignificant, a tinkerer and his fair wife lived happily. It didn't last forever; one winter, his wife fell deathly ill and passed away before the snow had time to melt. In his despair, the tinkerer fell into a deep depression and attempted to heal the whole in his heart the only way he knew how. He created a companion, one who could never fall ill, nor rust, nor die, that would merely fall asleep, and could be revived up to centuries later with the turn of a key. As he built this companion, he began to notice that despite his knowledge he had begun to craft her in the shape of his late wife; different materials, different colours, of course, but she had that same smile, that same curious head-tilt, that little ear-flick of frustration. Infused with his own magic, Golden Key was 'born'.

Or... something like that. ^^'
