Hehehehehe this was a really fun illustration to work on//// I have been trying to work more on my compositions and BGs but holy crap it's so time consuming hahahaha//This is my old OC named Remi ^ o ^ He used to be a child but I just tossed a few years on him hehehe!!

While I think this is good, there is a certain meh-ness about it.
The colors and shapes are competing against each other big time which creates an unease in this viewer's eye.
Be honest - where's the area of emphasis?
The usual method to remedy this would be to lighten the colors in the background, ie. the bed, etc. and then make the colors in the foreground bright and dense. But because all the colors are of virtually the same tonal value there is great war going on between objects.
You may say that that's your style and you're entitled to choose to paint the way you wish.
I agree, do what you want, but also maybe try and experiment and see what happens when you diminish surround areas and emphasize or highlight the main focal points.

Exactly as you said, as a random lazy hobbyist I just tend to remain in my comfort zone, and I totally agree with you at how I lack skills to emphasize a main point!! To be honest I have been trying, just that it hasn't resulted very well, thus I don't show it these works on public hehe.
And I also admit I am in comfort with this "uneasiness" that these pictures may cause, because I don't really intent in making the viewer focus in one thing, but in every single thing I hide in the picture. It can be really tiring for your eyes though (mine get exhausted while I color), but I feel it's a little more interesting having it this way rather than forcing or guiding the viewer's focus into something specific. I enjoy reading comments talking about different little things that their eyes caught at the first moment!
But yeah, I'm sorry if this style wasn't of your liking or if I sound like I'm trying to be hipster (also for the long reply). Thanks for your critique, I'll definitely try to explore that area more often from now on!
