After he served his time in the army Ilham worked at the dock and along with it he studied. Fariza was a student. On the eve of Novruz Bayram (Spring holiday) they engaged. Shortly before the bloody January events they got married.

That day at midnight the tanks gone along the streets. The people didn’t believe that there was shooting on the streets, one woman cried: “Soldiers, don’t shoot, the people are unarmed!” Nobody knows how many bullets shot through Ilham. The friends took him to the nearest hospital in the hope to save him. But it was too late.

Fariza’s first intention was self-immolation. The relatives prevented her to do so, but at night she wrote the short letter: ”I can’t live without Ilham, adieu, let nobody cry” and then committed suicide. At first their relatives wanted to bury them in the one grave. But then it was decided to bury them in the different graves, but face to face. Here they were named modern Romeo and Juliet or Leyli and Mejnun.

Their marriage date - 30/06 - is celabrating as Valentine's Day in Azerbaijan.
