Description
Lucy was in the back of the cell. She closed her eyes when she heard the door, but when nothing seemed to happen she opened them carefully.
"Sato?" Her eyes turned wide.
Sato said nothing. He was at least as surprised as she was, although for other reasons. It was more than a year since they last met and the girl had grown up. She wasn't as small as he remembered her to be. She was no longer a child. He reminded himself that he was here for a reason. He had a job to do; getting her back to safety. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't focus.
"How did you get here?" she asked. Her voice was no more than a hoarse whisper.
"Neorasa knew," Sato replied. There was something strange to her. There was no barrier. He could not feel her energy at all. He tried to intercept her gaze, but she immediately turned away her face when her eyes met his. It took Sato a while to understand why.
"Your aura. They blocked it, didn't they?"
There were tears in Lucy's eyes as she put her arms around her tiny body. She turned her face to the ground. Only now Sato could see the bloodstains on her shirt. This was worse worse than he expected. Way worse. Those bastards had used metheon pins on her.
"Lucy..." He didn't know what to say. This was all his fault. He should have known that they would go after Lucy instead of Neorasa. He should have protected her. "I'm sorry."
"Go away!" She cried. Her fingers grabbed the sleeves of the white hospital jacket, as though that could help her bear the pain. Even though she hid her face, Sato could see her tears falling on the ground. He clenched his eyes. Her crying cut his soul like a sharp blade. He felt horrible, but even more than that he felt powerless.
"Lucy, please" he begged her. He did not want her to cry. He touched her shoulder, but she immediately slapped his hand away.
"Stay away from me!" she shouted.
"We have to get away from here."
Lucy kept crying. "It hurts."
"I know" Sato whispered as his voice broke. "I know..."

Sato does have a heart. He's just terrible at expressing himself.
