Hello there! You two's Cadian costumes are incredibly nice. You see a lot of them out there that do well but fail to get the right shape of the helmet and y'all have made my day by getting it right. Good quality 40k cosplayers here in America are a rarity and it's nice to find 2 awesome ones who do Cadians. I do a Sergeant of the 203rd Cadian myself so it'd be awesome to bump into you guys at a convention someday. The Emperor protects!

It always seems ridiculous to me that the Imperium wouldn't be geared up for total war and would have half the population not involved. Chivalry isn't really the Imperial way.

Always depends on the planet, you know? The Imperium as a whole is a slow rolling gelatinous mass of bureaucracy, so it differs so much from sector to sector, since they're more or less left to govern themselves most of the time. You've got the Cadians who're mandatory military service for every man woman and child, to the Kriegers- who (for...questionable but 'practical' reasons) probably don't have any women serving. You've got codex approved lady commissars, Valhallans, Dan Abnett had some lady Tanith serving and Sandy Mitchel has referenced female Ogryn. I think I even recall some Catachans pewters floating around too.
To my best recollection, I can't really recall any regiment that specifically dictates its all male, besides some Tallarns (or more specificly, their commissar) being a dick to Valhallan Colonel Regina Kasteen for being a woman in power (and getting Cain all up in their face and thoroughly embarrassed over it as a result.) I'm fairly confident that may not be representative of the whole as far as Tallarns are concerned, however.
Not really much of a feminist myself, but it makes me happy to see 40k featuring some kick-ass ladies here and there. Having been a long term fan of war games I'd gotten used to the 'gunbunny' stereotype (at best), so 40k in general has been a surprisingly refreshing change from the norm.

I'm going to point out that this illustrates exactly why "female guardsman" models are a tricky thing to do, a female soldier wears exactly the same gear as her male counterparts. Female Cadian heads would certainly be appreciated though, and Victoria Lamb of Victoria Miniatures does a range of Arcadian Females, the bodies are more feminine than I personally think makes sense but the helmeted heads are great.

This is why Games Workshop NEEDS!!!! Female Guardsmen models. Or Forgeworld needs to finish up the Horus Heresy and make an upgrade kit.
