Description The celebration of Yule signifies beginings and ends to all things.

Germanic children would leave their boots by the hearth filled with sugar and hay for Sleipnir(eight-legged horse gifted to Odin by Loki). For their kindness odin would leave them a gift.

I decided to get into the X-mas spirit... hehe.

Lol, and later, some people appropiated the boots surprise thing for St Nicholas day, because there's no way you'd get anyone to convert to Christianity if that meant no more sweets. This version of the story includes significantly more badass, though, plus the inherent ridiculous cuteness that this epic warrior big boss guy would have a soft spot for em random kids - but he WAS the god of wisdom was well, wasn't he?

I enjoy it very much so. I wanted to do a whole series of the norse pantheon but sadly my hands can no longer take the ink work.

So nice to see something that's not Coca Colas Santa Claus! I think it's so easy for the modern world to gorget whjere the basis of these tradiitons came from, and to try and claim them as theirs alone.

This is a beautifully done illustration; like all of you work - so full of detail and thought (and Memory, hehe)...

And as has been said - kudos for getting Sleipnir's legs - I find a four legged horse hard enough!

I have no criticism for this at all

KendrixTermina In reply to Shedara [2013-11-17 22:35:14 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. Wherever on this planet there are seasons, people have celebrated winter solstice and come up with stories around it - it's such an universally human thing that even some native American tribes came up with midwinter-celebrations completely independent.Β

"Christmas" was actually popularized by Charles dickens of all people/generally newer than ppl thing with, "the observance of such pagan rituals" having been largely discouraged before, but it just wouldn't go away...

I guess that humans just generally like it warm and therefore celebrate when the days start getting longer again.Β

The modern world has no copyright thereXD

Kudos with Slepinir's legs, I find it hard just imaging a horse with so many legs O.o

me too... Ugh... If I id a much more realistic horse with more muscle tone i'd be having issues. I could do a front view but physically I dont understand how it all would work from the side. I'd never be that coordinated.

Hahahah~ just stick legs coming out of the body, like sticking an arm into a Mr. Potato Head. it doesn't really make sense or looks realistic, it just works
