Description
Here's the finished version! On top of well... finishing it lol I made it darker and added some lightning. I tried to draw the lightning myself at first but couldn't get it to look right. So I used brushes. Used brushes for the trees and grass as well. I used references for the horses as I don't think I've ever drawn horses from behind, but not for the riders so if they look weird that's why. Links for all the resources used is at the bottom. I was going to add our two borzoi hounds to this, but didn't. I might go back and add them sometime.

This is my entry for *life-d-sign 's latest Fox Hunt. I've never competed before but I've always wanted to and now I am This is my Akhal Teke mare Kalinka [link] and Kasey Ackart [link] chasing ~CSStables 's Blood Song [link] and Hrim [link] whom are the fox this time around.

Now for a little story!

The sky had been threatening to open all day, the clouds that marched lazily towards the horizon dark and heavy with rain. The smell of rain was thick in the air and occasionally the distant rumble of thunder could be heard. But for most of the day, nothing happened. All it did was set a rather dreary atmosphere for the Fox Hunt. The grounds at Dark Light were very beautiful, but today Kasey wasn't in the mood to enjoy them. She'd been looking forward to this for some time but the weather had her feeling rather apprehensive. She hated rain. She hated how it made your clothes itch, how it made your skin sticky and your hair frizz. It was nice when you were inside, curled up in bed watching a movie or reading a book. But it wasn't nice to ride around in.
Kalinka seemed to agree. The filly was usually rather laid back but today she shifted nervously and her ears never seemed to stay still, no doubt hearing thunder her human companion couldn't pick up on. But they'd committed themselves to this event and Kasey disliked going back on her word or canceling on people. Maybe this would be fun afterall, maybe it wouldn't rain.
Yeah right.
After about an hour of riding around searching for Hrim and Blood Song, she felt the first drop hit the bridge of her nose. After that it was a slow steady increase until the rain was a steady drizzle. There was the occasional flash of lightning, boom of thunder, and Kasey stuck to the trees, wanting to stay dry as possible and avoid the lightning. So when they reached the edge of a field, Kasey sighed and began to turn the bay filly back into the trees when a flash of red out of the corner of her eye caught her attention. Kasey let out a little 'yah' and urged Kalinka into a gallop, the Teke mare surging forward, using the speed and endurance of her breed to her advantage. Hrim was already half way across the field though, so Kalinka would have to catch up, her long legs swallowing up the ground in an effort to do so. Thankfully the other rider was heading for the cover of the trees. Kasey would just love to get struck by lightning out here in the open, she could hear her mother's chiding advice about lightning and open places in the back of her head. But she couldn't pass up the chance to chase after Hrim, even as lightning flashed and thunder boomed over head, for some reason having increased once she was out here in this field.
