Description
Name: Guru
Gender: Male
Height: 4'9
Race: Earth oriad
Class: Healer
City: Song Lu
Habitat: A bamboo grove notably filled with Red-colored Bamboo
Personality:
+ Curious | Intellectual | Altruistic | Objective
= Frank | Detached | Easily Bored
- Temperamental | Stoic | Unpredictable | Stubborn
Like most Oriads, Guru can be described as curious since he goes out of his way to discover, learn and understand how humans and elves go about their daily lives, though this would mostly stem from his constant strive to stimulate his mind. Guru doesn't judge where the information comes from either, so he seems mostly friendly and accommodating to anyone, regardless of race or where they came from. He equally enjoys sharing what he learned with others as just the chance to discuss and gain new insight is enough to satisfy him and consider a day fulfilled.
Guru though finds it difficult to lie and has a tendency to state things for what they are, which can both be a good and a bad thing for him since he can't entirely read other people and how his words affect them. Guru also seems mostly detached from others and material things. As much as he goes out of his way to learn and meet new people, he wouldn't stay around the same set of people for too long, especially if they ran out of new ideas and information to share, which in turn can make him get easily bored when there are no more things for him to learn.
Notably, however, Guru's mood is very prone to change. It's not difficult to say one wrong thing that will instantly set off his mood, and this can be troublesome for him since he isn't someone who openly shows his emotions. This makes him a little difficult to read and easily misunderstood by others, which really frustrates and irritates him at times. In turn, despite how much he wants to learn, a really negative experience behind learning something is enough make him avoid certain situations and topics altogether, hindering him in his own ventures.
History:
Guru first awoke to a number of children surrounding him and strangely poking him all over the place. Though they didn't notice him stirring while they talked to each other in garbled words, him uttering the word "Oriad" aloud made them realize very quickly the bamboo statue they found was actually alive. Still too drowsy to be bothered when they all squealed and ran away in fear, the oriad slowly stood up and stretched to wake himself up, not minding the children as they observed him from behind a cluster of bamboo. One of them eventually commented about how much like a grandpa he was, while another mentioned how he looked like one of those Gurus he saw in books his relative from the city owned. It was in that moment the Oriad finally turned his attention to them and repeated the word "Guru", effectively adopting that as his name.
Though initially scared of him, the children would soon afterward try to observe Guru up close, learning fairly quickly the bamboo grandpa wasn't hostile and that he was very curious about them as much as they were of him. It took a few more moments of interaction before Guru found himself being dragged all over the place by them, not really knowing where he was going or even where he was to begin with. They were soon enough found by an elder one of the children were raised by, and though she too was shocked at his appearance at first, at the end she didn't really know what to make of him so simply offered the grandpa a place to stay for now until they could figure out what he was and what to do with him.
Weeks would pass, and word eventually reaches them that there are others like Guru, Oriads as they called themselves. It was during this time Guru had already begun to learn most of the languages and the way of life that surrounded him, and when he received word of other oriads in places out further, he couldn't help but express a small want to venture out of his remote village. The place after all was slowly growing too small for his need to expand his insight, and now knowing there was more out there for him to learn, it was an opportunity he was glad to take when he was ready.

Ayyyy finally getting my Oriad Tengu grandpa out in time for the try outs~~ o)-<
The first time I read the Earth oriad description, I immediately knew I wanted to push for dwarvish proportions, though over time as ideas flew in my references soon expanded into Tengu territory. 8'D
Pretty happy with how things turned out design wise though. Also ended up trying to go straight to paints instead of lining over my sketch to save myself time. Still have a lot to learn and practice, but I'd like to think this is a good first attempt considering my own time constraints. 8') I wish there was a way to get SAI to not pixel out the edges of my paints during the transfer to PS though. ;;;;;
