Sharing The Same Tears

After “fleeing” Fishman Island (before Princess Shirahoshi catches up with them), the Straw Hats are reunited with Edward Emma (well, Luffy saw her in the battle against Hody Jones, but, that didn’t count) - she’s also reunited with Jimbe.

They haven’t seen each other since the battle against Chaos two years ago, where Emma and Luffy witnessed Ace’s death and then were dragged into the River Styx, and Jimbe had to dive into there to save them - it’s less of a river and more of a purgatory, though, so they were facing inner-demons down there as well. Had it not been for Luffy’s presence (he was unconscious at the time) and Emma and Jimbe’s conversation then Emma would not have been able to pull herself out of the Chaos for the final battle. Jimbe had helped to make her a stronger person. Not just because he was her Mother Undine’s First Knight, or because she has a special connection with Fishmen; but, it’s because he cares about the true her. Not just because she’s the Ocean Goddess’s daughter.

She’s also a tad emotional from time-to-time, and this isn’t exactly going the way that she had seen it all going in her mind! She can accept that, though - she hadn’t expected her reunion with her Captain, Luffy, to involve a murderous Great White Shark Fishman and a giant ship on a collision course with the island that she was born on, either!

This is the first time that any of the Straw Hats see Emma and Jimbe interacting together, but I think that Luffy is more concerned about whether or not Jimbe’s gonna join his crew.
