Description
I felt like drawing something all in pen
Particually I wanted to do a waterfall in pen and see how good I am at NOT drawing certain things in order to draw them.
It's not amazingly skilled or anything but I'm proud of it and like the result. Hope you like it too!!

Well I suppose there're many types of mermaids, I normally draw tropical ones but I've done a few deep sea ones as well. She might be a river mermaid. Just a very upstream one.

Well, the origin of the word mermaid comes from the word 'mere' meaning 'lake'. So I guess freshwater ones might even be considered traditional ones.

Well Sirens are the first forms of women with fish tails so I imagine mermaids a more of a cross between that and water nymphs, who tended to only live in fresh water.
I tend to think of mermaids in terms of sharks, where ever a sharks live, mermaids can too. Which is probably a very unique perspective.

I usually like to think of mermaids as more mammalian, like dolphins or seals are.
That doesn't really explain why I put them in lakes though...

I don't think of the mermaids themselves as sharklike, just their habbitat. Sharks can live in more places than dolphins and seals since they don't breathe air, so that's why I do that.
Well we draw what we see right? I see oceans and you see lakes

There I only have two thoughts. The first one is "only 17 pageviews ?! O_o it really deserves more >__< ", and the second one is "I KNOW this waterfall... but I can't find where I saw it ! >__< " So, question : did you reference from a photo or something ?
About the drawing in itself, it's really well done if you referenced, and if you didn't it is just wonderful

I may have seen somewhere a waterfall which looked a bit like yours, then ^^ there are so many wonderful waterfalls in the world and on DA
