Haha, yay! Queen Bee!!I'm afraid that to get this you would have to've read the Deltora Quest books, but enjoy the picture if you haven't
Ah, it was done more for a joke than anything else and since I don't know what she looks like by memory and couldn't get to the books I apologize for any mistakes like hair and eye colour. This is more a drawing of my first impression of her as a reader.
I like the hand. The scanner zapped the colours a bit but I still like it.

This is really awesome! It looks just like her, with her shawl and all her wizened apples. And I absolutely love the little bee hovering protectively over her shoulder!
Also, the books say she has brown hair and golden eyes. But she's pretty old so it makes more sense that her hair should be grey instead. I always imagined her with grey hair.

Steven's a darling. I was always kind of hoping that somewhere in the books he'd meet a nice girl and get married. That's my disney upbringing for you - all good characters find their true love and live happily ever after.
Haha, ah well I was sick alot as a child and my standard sick procedure was to sit in bed and read the Deltora Quest books. All of them. It got to the point where if someone read me a few lines I'd know which book it was from almost all the time. So alot of it stayed with me.

Lief and Dain are easier for me to imagine, it's middle aged guys that I have trouble with. I'm still trying to figure out how to make them manly. I think manga has made it difficult to draw guys who aren't kinda pretty boys. I'm working on it. I have impressions of what Barda and Doom look like in my head, but they're very undefined because I nothing I do seems to work. So I like to see other people's versions

I think to make Barda and Doom look older and more manly I just gave them squarer jawlines and a few more lines around their eyes. But that's probably harder to do anime style. I'd love to see what you come up with, though. I love seeing how other people draw them too!

Invented a pairing? Awesome! It was you who suggested Tira so feel free to take all the credit! One of us really needs to draw a picture or write a story of this now. Maybe he could save her from a Plains rat or something... Or she could bake something delicious using his mother's honey.
I haven't drawn a full body pic of either of them yet, so I haven't been thinking about muscles. Muscles are VERY MANLY, though. Barda's supposed to be as big as a bear, and Doom almost as large. I'd still love to see how you draw them, but until then I'll get around to colouring my ones for you then!

The Plains themselves do seem rather supernatural in their own quiet way. I like how it rubbed off on the people.
Oh yeah, this pairing is going to go supernova. Everyone loves pairings and everyone loves Steven. Haha true, she's terrified of rats. I wonder what she'd think of Nevets, a giant hairy monster? But Nevets'll protect her.
I was thinking of a dragon, damsel in distress and all that. Steven could take a dragon. Or maybe he'd just end up giving it honey or a wig from his cart in exchange for the girl. I think a rat might work better, less Disney-ish.
But at any rate I suppose he could've done a taxi service to some people at the wedding. I mean he travels anyway.
I think Doom's a little taller than Barda but less muscley. I like how one of the tallest characters has a little daughter.

I think a lot of why their territory is odd has to do with that Grey Tide thing that dwelt under the Plains.
And Steven/Tira is the best Deltora pairing yet! People can't help but love it. Hmm... She is a bit timid, Nevets might scare her off... I need to work this out... And I'm not sure if a dragon would take her in the first place, she keeps her hair covered all the time. Maybe after they rescued her from the Shadowlands he took her back to the Plains with him and that's how they met?
I love that too! Doom's always described as tall and Jasmine is tiny. He must tower over her when they argue... I need to draw this now. And spam the Deltoran clubs some more!!! I hope we're not annoying them... Nah, you know they love it!

But I suppose the thing with Steven and Nevets is very different to that and even between Tom and his siblings. Maybe just a different kind of wierd?

Yeah, the Plains seem to have all different kinds of weird...
And Tira had some backbone right from the start. Going against the Ra-Kacharz and helping out three complete strangers even though if she'd been caught she would've been executed, that was pretty awesome! And I was flicking through the books and it says that she doesn't cover her hair... It says she doesn't have any at all! All of the people of Noradz have shaved heads!
Steven and Tira dancing together, that's a real sweet image! I was going to draw them doing something else, but that sounds better... And yes, everyone MUST love this pairing! Or else...

Yeah, I'm watching the anime currently. It's on too early for me to watch but they put the episode up on the channel website so I just watch it there once a week rather than watch them all at once. I'm not a huge fan of the anime, the whole time I'm thinking how I'd remake the anime and half the time I'm cringing at something they're either saying or doing. It just doesn't feel right to me.
... They should read the books. That's all my shocked mind can say.

Yeah I'm tempted to do a whole scene too, I think we're both just going to have to do various scenes of the wedding and call it the 'Wedding Album' or something if anyone asks. Marilen would either be very pregnant or holding little Josef by that point wouldn't she? Barda and Lindal aren't the type to waste time getting married so I assume they've done that and perhaps they've got a baby on the way... Or they could decide to get married while watching Lief and Jasmine get married. It'd be cute if Barda was shy like that and needed to bring it up really casually rather than just propose. I'll have to go back and reread the prologue bit to check what's canon and what can be invented. Such as Steven and Tira dancing (or about to) and a mischievious Tom.
Have you seen the cartoon Avatar? That sort of intelligent but kid-friendly show's how I'd've like the Deltora anime to be.

Josef was born just before the wedding, I think. Marilen might leave him in Sharn's (or someone else's) care for a chance to dance with her charming rogue of a husband, though. I like to imagine Barda being a little shy when it comes to romance, otherwise I don't see why he wouldn't have found love before Lindal. Unless he had someone pre Shadow Lord Invasion and she was killed in the attack... Or not...

Fa-Glin's pretty old...), Ailsa, Bruna, Merin, Prin, Zeean, Manus, Fardeep, Orwen and Joanna, Gers, Hellena, Claw, Brianne (any combination of those last four would work), Zerry, Honey, Bella, Swift (the horses?), Tira and Steven (would you believe they're mentioned together!), Queen Bee, Bede and Mariette, Nanion and Ethena (haven't seen them for ages!), Tom and Ava, Veritas, Forta, Hopian, Honora, Fortuna, Fidelis, Joyeu (dragon pairings anyone?).
That's everyone that's mentioned (Ranesh, Filli, Kree and Ebony aren't mentioned for some reason...) and not counting all the hundreds of Broome villagers, Torans, Ralads, Resistance fighters and freed Shadowlands slaves that were also present. Have fun pairing them!

Oh that would be sad, poor Barda. Then I guess while the Shadowlord was in charge he didn't really feel like falling in love or getting married with all that other stuff going on. I'll have to reread the books and see if any other potential couples jump out at me. I love Nanion and Ethena, I almost did a painting of them once but didn't like the sketch.
I think I might pair some of Lief's childhood friends too. Despite their names never being metioned or any mention of them at all after the first series even though Lief's known them HIS ENTIRE LIFE. I'll probably end up drawing a picture of Lief whilst just another teenager in Del and invent some friends for him. Normal Del teenagers need some love too.

They probably were dancing, when Lief and Jasmine are out on the balcony and Barda and Lindal come out to join them they're both in very good spirits. I thought it was cute that Jasmine was holding Lief's hand then, because he was upset...
I think the anime was trying to hint at a Fardeep/Zeean pairing and that cracked me up so much! Also, I've seen people draw some Manus/Gla-Thon fanart, and that's hilarious too!
Those were just all the characters at the wedding, straight from the book. And Nanion and Ethena are a wonderful couple with a nice tragic past. There are just too many Deltora Quest couples in need of more love and attention here.
Lief's friends, I know! They're mentioned twice I think, once in the first book and again... somewhere else. And then nothing! They're his best friends, what the hell happened to them? Maybe they were too uncomfortable around him when he became king because of all those times they'd said how horrible the royals were...

With Barda being in charge of the palace guards I wonder how Lindal would feel about living in Del? She seemed pretty attactched to her home territory. But I guess she could always travel alot. What would Tira and Steven do? I imagine if there're little children at least she would have to settle down at one point. Unless they're gypseys.
Oh gosh, Tira's mother in law would be Queen Bee... That'd be interesting. It'd either be 'GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY SON' or 'GRANDCHILDREN. NOW.'
Yeah, I feel like all the secondary characters are getting neglected. Even some main characters, poor Barda doesn't have much fanart. I reckon the secondary character are almost more fun to draw because you have more leeway with them.
He's with them in the first book and then in the 8th book when he's about to jump down to save the day he sees all his old friends, all the people he's grown up with and known his whole life (apparently that's not enough to give you a name though) and then when the castle gets lit up the all see him and what he's holding and they trust him so don't say anything or make a single noise. It's a really nice scene actually.
I don't know, I think it would've been a great way in the first series to show how things are in Del for the average person, even in series 2 and 3 actually. If the anime's remade it'd probably be a good way to show different elements of the story.

Yeah, Lindal loves Broome almost as much as she loves to roam. I can't really see her settling down in Del, without travelling around a lot.
Steven and Tira's kids... What kind of weird abilities would those kids have? Would they be like Steven and Nevets or have different powers?
I'm going to make it my purpose here to draw lots of minor DQ characters now. Every single one of them deserves some love! They're all brilliant characters!

But I suppose they're not that far away from each other really, and I'm sure the roads'll be improved between all the major cities. She might have to just spend her time between the two cities and leave the roaming until her kids have grown up a bit.
Steven and Tira's kids have to be awesome - they just HAVE to be. Perhaps not the same senario as Steven and Nevets (that does seem like something that would've happened AFTER their birth, or I suppose they wouldn't be called brothers so much as 'Steven's split personalities') but some sort of telepathy, wierd insight into situations and just an undercurrent of the supernatural would work just fine. Plus the ability to control the bees and have those silvery fish carry them around sometimes. Have I missed anything?

I tend to imagine him as a very watchful parent and over-protective at times. Like practice sword-fighting is good, and going all out at them's alright since it teaches them to defend themselves; but a night out in Del - nup. No way.

He'd have to be protective of his own kids, just look how he is with Lief and Jasmine... Hey, I've just realised his mother was a nursemaid and so was he! And I think you've got Lindal spot on too. She'd let those kids do anything, and Barda would be worrying about them all the time. Nah, she wouldn't tell him, she'd just take them with her. She just does what she wants, it's half the reason he loves her.
I don't know what other powers they could have...

I was always most freaked out by the Maze of the Beast myself, underground labyrinth with a monster that's trying to eat you? No thankyou.

Then before he had time to reply he'd be stuck being nursemaid. Again.
She could just leave a note. Better than telling him to his face and having to deal with him flipping out and totally locking down all of Del so she can't leave. Because he can do that. Not that it would work, but he'd try.
A creepy little supernatural girl's always fun to have in a story. Something like, not a mind reader, but VERY intuitive. The rest I don't know.

Lief and Jasmine have this tragically sweet relationship and Barda and Lindal have a comic one. It's a really nice contrast.
I know he did a lot of the Quentaris Chronicles covers (another Aussie fantasy series) but apart from that and DQ I don't know what else he's done. It's a shame really, he's so good at illustration!

I wonder if they ever actually got a proper castle nursemaid, I mean there's alot of children there - at least 10 not counting any extra Ranesh+Marilen kids. Even if 6 travel around that's probably enough to warrant someone whose job it is to look after children whenever needed.
Yeah, I prefer the Lief and Jasmine one. Plus they're young and pretty much best friends, so it's got that extra level of cuteness.

I think Jasmine would be quite happy to leet her kids have a lot of freedom, a nursemaid would only slow them down. But then there could be those cute senarios where the twins leave messages for each other in that hollow tree.
But being able to talk to trees (they have to be able to), perhaps they simply tell the tree the message and get it to pass it on or something.
Yeah. Though it was good to see her in Dragon's Nest. That's really the only full interactions we see between them.
I think very little can EVER be as good as Lief and Jasmine.

I imagine that hollow tree would be the most 'aware' of all the trees. Being so close to humans for so long and all that. I like to imagine that it's better at communitcating than other trees.

Yep. He's a girl. I was watching the episode with Jin and Jod in their cottage, they try to pat Filli to be friendly. And Jasmine tells them to stop because, and I quote: "She doesn't like that!" I was not at all happy...
No. She draws them. I've seen all of the anime episodes and the only ones she's copied are the Doom and Jasmine ones. The rest are nowhere to be found. Lindal wasn't even in the anime at all.

When I saw them the first time I was like: 'Lindal? I must've missed an episode of the anime...' But there is no Lindal to be found. And Lief and Jasmine never hug at all, like in that 'Sleeping Dunes' one. She draws them alright.
