Nice. Those are the best pictures. Spur of the moment and then if you get a nice result like this, it's a bonus!

Brilliant image. Its beautiful, but also much more educative than I would've expected. I never even considered that a lot of this light pollution is a huge waste of energyβeven with energy-friendly lighting.
I'm very positive about the photo, but I have to say the watermark is terrible. The script font is too sharp and "clumsy", and I don't think I would ever use a script font for a watermark anyway. The 'Photography' part is too big and the font is too sharp; I think it would be better to use a sans serif, or at least a serif with a lower contrast. Using color in a watermark might also not be the best practice. I don't understand the huge copyright symbol either. It doesn't add anything to the functionality to make it this big, and at this size the weight is much higher than your own name while I would think your name is the most important element of the watermark. It really doesn't speak of professionalism, which is a pity because your photos are great. If you're interested, I would make you a watermark. It's obviously not a lot of work and I'm sure your photos will benefit from it.

I decided to do this shot when I attempted to take a photo of the stars and realised the light pollution was too great for me to do that in my area. So instead I just changed my attention to a different subject.
Thank you for pointing out the watermark, it is horrendous I agree, But it was when I first started using it so I had time to tone it down a bit and make it less intruding. I am not in the final stages of designing a new watermark with a more "company logo" style to it .

very well done! Really like the ribbons of lights - we don't get enough night traffic in my area for something like this...and if we DO get 'rush hour traffic' when its dark, its during the time of year that is too windy to keep a camera still.

well yes, I do use tripods, but its just very windy here during the darker days of the year, I don't live in a high traffic city, despite the fact that its the largest city in the area. We get our fair share of traffic, but just not when its all that dark. There is also only one overpass near town, and its about a good mile away from the edge of town, and around a bend XD
As for rides, neh, I enjoy the good quantities of walking I do everyday. Parents are about 500 miles south of me, and my few yet close friends, are typically at home, taking care of their families, and I refuse to pester them for a ride to the overpass outside of town hahha
ok, enough of the 'pity me' crap, back to your photograph:
I can believe the exposure time is ridiculous, I've had my fair share of "focus, prop, timer, wait....wait....still waiting...wait some more...drink your coffee to stay warm while you wait some more..." best example: [link] That was about 2.5 minutes of just standing there cuddling while waiting for the camera to do its thing. It also took about 10 different variations to find the desired settings XD

I will be doing that, once my bug is running and I have the funds to buy sheets of plexiglass large enough for me to hover over my camera XD

I've always wanted to create one out of plexiglass! One big enough to fit me and the camera in...like a light-weight cage!

I love how it looks somewhat surreal because you can't see the cars, only the multitudes of lights.

It adds to the surreality and looks like something ominous that the lights are hurrying around.
