Hey! Question--how do you get the hair straight and poofy like that? I kind of want hair like Nick Zinner's...can it be done without a flat iron (which I'm afraid might be bad for my hair)?

Well from what I just googled of Nick Zinner, it doesn't seem like he really flat irons his hair. In this picture, my boyfriend had flat ironed it. But that "poofy" effect is simply created with product. A strong, fiber-based product works best, in my opinion.

Have you any recommendations for what product? Currently I use American Crew forming cream and it doesn't make my hair as thick and crazy as I want it.

In the salon I work at, we have the PERFECT product for that kind of look. It's called Matte Forming Ground by Davines. The only problem is that you can't get that brand in a store somewhere. It is only exclusively sold in specific salons. Like I said, try finding something that is strong holding, matte, and fiber-based. A cream type product will not get you that look, nor will gel. And if you can't find something fiber-based, a wax could work also. Before I became a hair stylist, I really loved TIGI products. So maybe try seeing if they have something close to that?
