Description Though I love the old classic Disney movies for what they are and what they are worth the Little Mermaid has never been a favourite of mine, I love it as a Disney movie, but there is something about the story of a girl who leaves her home, never able to return to it, in order to follow a man she barely knows that I just don't like.

At some point, especially during the time when Eric loved another she must have felt some regret.

Of course I know that the Hans Christian Andersen original tale is far more depressing, this is just my thoughts on the Disney version

I like the idea, that it wasn't completely peachy the entire time. Well done.

If the mermaid in the original (or Ariel or Marina, for that matter) stopped and realized what they were doing, they wouldn't be blindly in love.

I agree. Having been familiar with the TV series from the 1990s before the movie, I always found it very strange that someone with such a lust for life suddenly finds herself falling hard in love, and willing to give up that life just to pursue said love. If Eric wasn't a part of it, then the story would likely be more about Ariel trying to satisfy her curiosity about the land-- still clichΓ©d, but makes more sense to me.
