Thanks, Crackpot! (Again with the urge to call you "Cracky". Gaaah. it just comes off like I'm calling you a "crackhead". and yet "crackpot" i consider perfectly fine. Dawww, I rather call you insane over a drug addict. How sweet.)
But yeeeeees, I had fun! Painting for me is defiantly a different kind of monster, and more complicated. But I like it. It makes me feel like I'm focusing more on my work. It also gives me a sliver of hope that someday I'll be able to paint traditionally. In theory, I think I can do a lot of what I did onto a real canvas. Except the opacity stuff. LOL.

You haven't! I'll need to find more songs for you. There is another unused and deleted song from the movie that I love, too.

Thank you. i'm really glad you enjoyed it so much. You deserve much more gifts much more often. I must thank you again, though, because you inspired me to try and figure out how to paint fur. not the same texture or way you did it, but I think my way still gives it the same effect.

how did I do it? Lots and lots of layers, my friend. LOL. But yes, for this I relied heavily on a oil paintbrush in sumopaint. I had the brush at like 45 opacity. That way it looked more like I was painting, you know? except for around the mouth and eyes. That I had at full opacity. That way it would look like Cheshire's body could desappear at any moment, and all that would be left is a grin.
Then I drew the background under it. Started with a solid blue color, then I used the oil brush to swirl is around so it didn't look so solid. Then on other layers I drew the trees. Trees are mixtures of dark browns of different shades. After that, I did some soft shading on him. I was curious to see if it could work with a less cartoony style, too. It did. I was happy. Then on layers in front of, and behind the trees I added fog. same way I do the soft shading, but with white instead of black.
Then I created two new layers. One on top of everything, and another on top of just one layer of the trees. The top layer is a dark blue, with the layers opacity made really low till I found it suitable. On the other layer, I I made is a dark greenish color. It gives it this interesting effect. Then I did different layers, and used airbrushes, for the firefly effect.
Aaaand then you have the finished piece. YAY!
Pfft! I can't do ANYTHING traditionally. Nope, all digital, as I said. But thank you! I'm glad that you like how it came out. I drew another picture of Moonie and the cheshire cat, before going to bed. I plan on trying to color that the same way, if I can. Look out for it.

Oh i see... and its very interesting. Oil Brush... ill need to try that with opacities as you say >.<
I never know what exactly to Paint means... people say.. take brush and start painting on one layer without outlines, right?
uhhrrll okeey..I need to try out that oil brush to understand how it works.
Uhh.... How you do the soft shading? So i know to do fog too >.< Cause im very interested in non cartoon ways to draw.
Aha... so layer blue to change colors of it all, we could say?.
How did you know, putting that greeney layer over the trees layer would mix so? I would have never tried cause i would have never thought of it making a good effect.. or even being noticed... cause i think a layer like the blue one over everything woul make green layer disapear.
OH aha. So more layers for Firefly >.< Yops
At last finished!! XD Im exhausted XD hahah XD I can feel it!
Ohh... i .. see. Why not? XD For me it was hard to do digitally things.
Wellcome! XD
Oh yes i will, and good luck! Sometimes when i try doing something like another thing i did, it just does not work anymore xD.
And thanks for the big explanation xD

Actually, I think it helps if you start with doing the parts where you would need to show is a crease in the skin/fur/whatever, first. that way, you can just go to a layer under that and then fill in everything without having to guess where you had those spots. If that makes any sense.
For soft shading, I just do a layer over the colors. I make the layer opacity around 15-25. Depending on the mood of the picture.. Then I take a paintbrush and just paint where the shading needs to go. same technique for fog, just use white instead.
yes. The blue layer is an additional way to set lighting and mood. I wanted the forest to have a surreal feel to it.
I didn't know. I experimented. I just knew it needed something to show more depth to the picture, so I took a wild guess. My guess just happened to be right on the first try. it's more like an instinct, you know?
No need to be exhausted. The picture only took two hours to do. The same amount as most of my usual digital art. it's easy peasy. Try it sometime. It's also pretty fun!
i have faith that Cheshire will turn out good. It's moonie I don't know about. Oh well. I'm going to try and see if I can get the speedpaint to work for that one. Fingers crossed.
