Description This was the final project for my Drawing for Sequential Art class. The assignment was to create two pages depicting the following:
Panel 1 - Spider Man swinging through the Manhattan borough of our choice. (I chose Chinatown)
Panel 2 - shot of crowd reacting to Spider Man ( I switched this with panel 1)
Panel 3 - Spidey scatters a flock of pigeons
Panel 4 - Spider sense goes off
Splash page - Spidey is confronted by his mortal enemy Doc Ock

Speder Man belongs to Marvel
Image belongs to me

Commenting on behalf of ProjectComment .

A sequential art class, isnt it? You might hear, as other commented already said, a lot about anatomy and shading, but let's keep into the comic book technics.

When we draw "by the book" you really start with the establishing shot of the place and then the character, so nice ideia by switching panels. But the panels sizes are pretty similar so you dont have a real main purpose for the page (its etablishing the setting, the character or a transition to the action). Since you have a script you can focus by changing panels sizes.

For the reading dinamic... its nice, you guide the reader to swing along with spidey, but the second panel was unintentionaly good. At first glance we think spidey is making a lateral movement that end at the top of the roof, but on a second look we see the movement makes no sense, by the camera angle (he is shooting web to the ground and against his movement) and the lack of the body perspective!

As a final detail, be extremely careful about your the character you're drawing. Spider-man doesnt wear boots, its a minor detail but since is an integral part of his character and power it can make you lose a job to someone else.

Overall, as sequential art, its ok, however you should look for basics of drawing.

I have to admit, I find making black and white comics pretty brave, since without colors the readers’ attention is concentrated fully on the artwork, making them less forgiving of any possible mistakes. This is why I would advise you to use more shading and rendering. This would make your art appear less empty, not to mention that it would convey the textures of the presented objects.

What is more, I would encourage you to put a little bit more attention to human anatomy. For example, the male passerby in the first panel has a rather unnaturally looking head – a rather unfortunate fact, since he is stating in a place that makes the readers’ attention drawn to him.

Looks pretty good. You manage to capture the settings quite well. For the second panel, I would suggest to add a few more details to the character to make him appear more dynamic. Regardless, it's still a good piece. Great job!

Wow! This looks very good! Professional even! I have to ask how you made this! (digital, ink, pen/marker or something else)
