Description Self-portrait with Sarah [link]

This one took quite a while to get right as the whole "not moving while you lightpaint yourself with your other hand" thing turned out to be a lot harder than I expected. Many, many thanks to Sarah for sticking with a difficult pose until I got it right.

Thanks! My first attempt at a self-portrait, cunningly softened by the addition of a nude to distract the viewer.

You are great, this is a great inspiration for me; i had almost lost the will to do something with lightpaint. Maybe i will try out some new ideas in the near future.. Thanks for sharing this

this is a wonderful effect...simply stunned by the fact that it is done in camera and not in computer.

so much i need to learn about photography.

Thanks, you can do a lot with more "traditional" techniques, and often it's easier as you can see immediately if it's working.

Lightpainting is always a hoot. Lightpainting yourself is a slightly fraustrating hoot, and frequently involves a lot of swearing.

Thanks! I have a lot of fun with them. My speciality is keeping models amused by tripping over things in the dark on the way back to the camera...

This is amazing! Like every other piece of work in your gallery! How in the world do you get that effect with the lights? What kind of lights do you use? I've done bulb shots pefore but I've <> never been able to do something as "electric" as that!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DaveMc In reply to IncognitoGeek [2005-03-21 19:55:42 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I use normal pocket flashlights - I have lots of the damn things now.

1. Open shutter.
2. Wave flashlight around.
3 Close shutter.
4. Repeat until you get something you like or the model gets bored and brains you with your tripod.

IncognitoGeek In reply to DaveMc [2005-03-22 01:37:48 +0000 UTC]

Now that is awesome! I'd love to try that out... and those pocket flashlights sound like a good idea too!

Careful not to leave any of the sharper tripods lying around hehehe... so how long did it take you to get a shot that you liked?

DaveMc In reply to NavVar [2005-03-20 21:58:32 +0000 UTC]

It's very low-tech - just me, Sarah and a flashlight. The trick is to keep everything still except the light for the duration of the exposure.

don't have to be evil to pose evil sometimes. tame my photo teacher for example. he's one of the most kind hearted people i know. nor does he look evil. but my friend was able to pose him in such a way that he looks like an evil warlock or something XD it's great.

Another amazing piecs of work how do you achieve the lighting effect - is the torch shining directly at the camera?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DaveMc In reply to King-Speen [2005-03-20 12:23:48 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. You have to avoid shining the torch directly into the camera as that will cause lens flare.
