I'm just reading that book now! I haven't seen the movie yet tho, we went to the theater and it wasn't playing ... that's really neat how she's sitting in the frame of the background, nice job on the clothing and hair too...I picture her looking a little bit more elegant, but there is such an aray of interpretation one could make ....nice colours too

very interesting! I like how she is flowing out of the framed background. I love the red, black, and white colors. The one thing that is a little off for me is the fact that her hair is being blown one way, the komono another way and the right sleeve seems to be being blown from yet a different direction. Of course it could be a very windy day, but a breeze usually hits an object from only one direction. Okay, Im done rambling - I really shouldn't be talking.. this is better than anything I could ever draw!

well, i didn't mean for it to turn that way but now that you mention it, it does looks like her dress and her hair are flowing in opposite directions.

Hah. Didn't notice that. To be fair, I think that it'd seem unbalanced if you reversed the flow of either the dress or the hair. Your sense of composition was good even if your realism wasn't - and given the choice I'd have gone with composition.

The handling of cloth is generally pretty nice - I might have tried longer, smoother-flowing lines (just because that fits with the way cloth usually gets handled in traditional Chinese and Japanese art) but it works well this way too. And very good colour scheme.

I agree about the skinny calves - it wouldn't be so much of an issue, but her thighs are quite chunky, so there's a lot of contrast. Also, the way the sleeve puffs up over the right forearm sort of makes it look as if the forearm's at a steeper angle than it should be if it's going to connect to the elbow. At that angle it's tricky - I'd have had the sleeve pulled back to the elbow rather than trying to handle it.

Anyway, good stuff.

a year ago, i don't think that i could have pulled off something like this, although that's not saying i think pulled this off without a hitch. maybe i was a bit aggressive in pushing what i can pull off but i'm pretty happy with this regardless.

wow, I really like it. It really looks like a Japanese wall scroll. Yeah, I saw the trailer too, that movie looks like it's going to be good! Good job!

very nice! however, a few things....her left leg looks a bit too skinny at the calf/ankle - perhaps it could have a little more curvature. also, the head, while beautifully drawn, is a bit too small. while it fits your style here, i think it's someone overdone - perhaps it should be a little more in proportion. excellent work on the body and the background though!!

background's actually the only thing i'm most proud of.
