Description Bryce5.5 with gamma compression in PSP7. Thanks to Zethara of pointing me in the direction of Smartpipe and Madmax, of (madmax@renderring.com) who made it. I took the metasphere and turned them into ordinary spheres to speed up the render. The four tenticles are Smartpipes and the main body I modeled in wings3D. Once again I've experimented with a little DOF to separate the model from the background. The material used on the model is "unreal" in that it is both totally reflective and transparent at the same time, this makes appear very bright under most circumstances, but in a low light setting such as this it has the property of showing off what is inside it.

Hi There!
You have just earned yourself an O.D.D. feature ! congrats!
Todays' theme was "3D Digital Art And Fractalz Tribute" !
ODDS (oibyrd's daily deviations) are to honor the sometimes overlooked artists of dA that I personally think deserve some exposure (and ALSO, to show off people who I think are undeniably talented in their own genre of art, REGARDLESS of their #'s of fav's or pageviews. I like what I like and sometimes artwork isn't featured in the regular DDs because it's popular all on it's own It's a shame, but the admins are only trying to be fair! ). Please click the link below to see your work featured and to view other featured artists . If you prefer not to be a featured artist, just send me a note and I will remove you from the list. Cheers! xoxo Sandi oxo

awesome work. I love stuff like this. Know were I can get these "smart pipes"?

You have two options, if you want the "origional" smart pipe made by MadMax you can e-mail me and I'll post you the obp files (500k). The drawback with this is that you should really give him credit for using the pipe and if you used it comercially I think you would be morally bound to contact him and obtain his permission. Alternatively you could make your own via the tutoral on my website - under "how to create flexible pipes". You get more "flexibility" (pun - groan) making them yourself but it is time consuming. Either way or both, does not matter. My email is mail@davidbrinnen.com

ok, thanks.
lol at your pun, good one. Though I doubt I'd use it commercialy, it would be fun to have.
I will look for the tut on your site, thanks.

Max if you use Madmax's which I emailed to you. Otherwise a pointer to my website tutorials would not go amiss if you felt so inclined. The ball is in your court now. Otherwise, just get on with making art!

davidbrinnen In reply to penguinluv4ever [2005-10-28 22:37:23 +0000 UTC]

I don't know... possibly, I have a very poor short term memory, all the conversations I have are kinda suspended snippets, highly comparmentalised, I can look back trough dA and that in turn provides clues, but to do so in every instance would be soul destroying, so I usually just progress blindly and hope for the best! In the end it does not matter, I might be insulted and accused of being difficult or awkward because I can't recall things that have just occured with any clarity so it is that such considerations leave no lasting impression on me beacuse I forget... swings and roundabouts huh?

It looks like a gloopy... underwater city with tentacles to maim foreigners. Man, I need food. Liking the transparent, gloppy look to the jellyfish's form. Would there be a shadow beneath the jellyfish? Though I'm not good with light source and shadows (if I didn't say), so just wondering. ^^

davidbrinnen In reply to Hey-Poo-Guy [2005-08-29 21:27:51 +0000 UTC]

You could be right about the shadow, and saying that you've reminded me I should have done some "caustics" effects on the ground - you know the criss-crossing highlighted patterns which appear from the waves above... I'll have to ponder that. Thanks!

Thanks, I was trying to get that impression of inner structure that you see in them... wings3D is very good in this respect since it will allow you to turn shapes temporarily inside out to work on them!

Thank you! Atheist! Yeah the Pope said only yesterday that the way forwards was for all the worlds major religions to get together to talk to one another... - how about, instead, if they all just shut up, didn't antagonise one another with their differing views and stopped killing people - does that not sound like a better plan?

You continue to amaze me with your intelligence, my friend... That is, in my opinion, the PERFECT solution... to hell with holy wars, to hell with "OMG IF UR NOT CHRISTIAN UR GOING TO HELL!", to hell with all of that...Just respect other people's beliefs and leave it at that.

davidbrinnen In reply to T1g4h [2005-08-21 23:41:59 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's always nice to be reguarded as intelegent, but I don't think my view is all that radical, at least here in the UK where most rational people are fed up of the Catholics and the Muslims blowing people up and generally acting in a way which most reasonable people would call "evil" while at the same time claiming their actions are all in the name of "good".

Well, problem is, here in the good 'ol USA, this country tends to be run by Christians, and fundies at that...So, not only is the majority of this country filled by loonies that want to convert Atheists like me, but they also tend to RUN this blasted place as well...It seems like if said your viewpoint here about, you know, shutting up about your beliefs and sotp trying to convert everyone, etc. etc. etc., you'd be lynched... (Well, not actually lynched, but you get the idea...

Ohh..Jellyfish! Hehehe..I'm glad you used smartpipes this way! I love the material...it's cool to be able to see inside it.

What did you turn into regular spheres??? I'm confused...wouldn't that change their structure?? in anticipation of your explanation Haha...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

davidbrinnen In reply to Zethara [2005-08-21 14:41:08 +0000 UTC]

I changed the metasphere of the smartpipe into ordinary spheres you can just make them out if you look closely at the tenticles - but given that they are so tightly packed it just looks like ribbing. I rather like the effect.
