Description
Behind the Cow Path (literally translated to English) is the name of a camping about 5 kilometres from where I live. This is where I initially set up this painting: the first time I made a set up from life instead of from an image. Worked the details out at home of course, but still kept the main composition lines in tact.

The land was very dry at that time because we had very little rain, also it was overcast, so the initial setup of the painting was a bit lifeless. Tried to liven it up a bit by adding some more colors to the dry area (reds and greens) and of course by adding cows. The cow breed is called Brandrood cattle and is actually pretty rare, there are only a few thousand of these cows left in the Netherlands. Fortunately there is an initiative going on to restore the breed.
