Description Caernarfon is a medieval castle and walled city founded by King Edward I in 1284.

The castles was inspired by the towering walls of Constantinople, Roman forts and Arthurian legend. This gives Caernarfon it's unique appearance. Massive in scale and as a display of English power and authority it was also massively expensive and never completely finished. Construction finished in 1330.

Edward II, the first English Prince of Wales was born inside the castle and the past two Princes of Wales have been invested here.

Caernarfon is an interesting place to visit, it's a smaller town with less than 10,000 that doesn't have direct train access. The walled city is almost entirely intact (except where it was broken to make room for a road) and its filled with buildings dating from the medieval to the Georgian.
