Fantastic! Already using, with Variety changer - colors switch nicely during the day!
Thanks!

Hi. I liked this wallpaper so much, i decided to create a custom PNG that allowed me to choose a colour directly from the "Appearance Preferences" panel. It didn't take much, i just used GIMP to do a flood fill of a colour of #808080, with "colour erase" mode at 50%. Now, i just set this PNG as the wallpaper and choose any background colour i want, and i can even apply a gradient! (It looks better with a solid colour, though...)
Here is a link to the file: [link]
Enjoy!

PS: David, if you think other may like it, feel free to add this file to your pack.

That sounds quite interesting... I'd like to see an screenshot to see how ot looks (can't test it right now cpuse I'm nou using Linux for the time being as there are some preoblems with the nVidia optimus graphics cards).
Yes, I think other people may like it, so you can upload it to DA (as long as you reference to this page or something) and I'll link you in the description

Like it very much. Would it be OK to make a version without the bright gradient in the center?
Nothing wrong with the current version, it's just me. I'm distracted by bright backgrounds.

The pack includes de .xcf source file, so open it with GIMP and you'll see some layers. You can make invisible the one called "Background", which is the final mix of the layers, and make visible the rest of them (except "selected", which I used in case I had to make the oval selection again) and play around with the opacity of the layers "Light1" and "light2" as you like. Then, choose your favorite color and fill with it the "Color" layer and save it in the format you prefer. Hope it helps.

Oh cool thanks for the instructions. My digital art skill is very low. But this will give me the opportunity to play with GIMP. Thanks.
