Hey look! Over a year in the making and with you know, most of that time completely unattended (I hate hate hate hate colouring wings.. I got a quarter of the way, stopped, got half n stopped for like 8 months. Does that say much?)Started like a month or two after I finished the first one (because I'm an idiot and wanted to do ANOTHER one even though that one took me forever to finish). Mostly as they're actually absurdly easy to draw once the flow starts happening and you get a base design you like.. It's the colouring that makes it all a bitch, seriously.
Yes, there's like errors in the anatomy, mostly in the back lower wing, but it took ages trying to fix it then I couldn't be bothered and moved on. Look at the tails instead! Those are very nice and smooth and I like their twistiness.
Uh.. background is bleargh.. I couldn't recreate the effect I did the first time. I seriously can't remember how I did it very well and it's very much ARGH. Pssht..
The wings also needed more time on them, especially the blue feathers for more detail and appreciation an what not.. But hey, it's taken over a year, I wanted to get something done that looks FINISHED for these holidays and well.. I haven't even got any half finished bits and pieces laying around like I thought so I finished this guy. Woo.
All in PS3. Probably like 30hours or something all together cause colourings a pain and it was probably a few hours sketch/roughing it then outlining and what not.
So yeah.. Nother Moon Dragon, a bit more lizard like in the face than the last one and with wings out! A purely free one (no binding wraps and all) and.. yeah.

I see dragons as the missing link between reptiles and birds, but not a whole lot of people think of them that way. People always seem to draw them as typical, scaly, bat-winged things or as cute, furry critters. (Dragons with fur are pretty, to be sure, but they don't make a lick of scientific sense to me.)
So seeing this dragon with both scales AND feathers really made my day
I also have a soft spot for Asian dagons...

Haha.. My moon dragons are pure fantasy element. I like the serpentine appearance of Asian dragons, but to fit the look I wanted, this guy needed big feathery wings.. or the ability to have them anyway.. sooo.. wings! Hehe.
I understand your thought on the fail of fuzzy dragons. My opinion is it's not really fur so much as just really fluffy feathers! Haha.

Oh my god, very pretty. XD And it reminds me of my Kestas. Also with four blue wings and a serpentine body... But his body is green, and only has one tail. Ffff, here I was trying to be original with my 'Celestial Dragon' orz

Yeah, chinese dragon things.. not exactly original, no matter how you do them, haha. My Moon Dragons are sorta demi god things and I think about the only really original aspect to them is they're actually just aspects of the true Moon God, but that's all character development crap over appearances and bleah.

I love the wings, and really believe that they've been pain to do. The whole outlook of that dragon is absolutely fantastic, the colors are beautiful. That background fits for this pic as it isn't too much detailed so it's not the first thing the viewer notices, but it's the dragon

Yeah, I can see where you're coming from. Wings can be a pain in the ass to color, especially if you wanna do each and every feather individually. But, I think that it just makes the end product, such as this lovely piece, stunning.
Personally, to my tastes (and just from not knowing the character), I think if you had saturated some of those blues and violets and yellows more, it woulda done a lot of justice to the piece. As of right now, I think the border sort of draws away some attention from the beast, and that's no good, considering how much time you poured into it. Maybe that's just me, but saturating the dragon or desaturating the border would really, really help the piece out a good bit. (Preferrably the former.)
Of course, feel free to ignore my simpleton ramblings. At this point, I'm sure you're well and done fiddling with this piece!

Yeah, it is nice to look at in the end and it almost seems worth it! Or if it's real good, yeah it is worth it. I'm gonna have to sit down and finish this proper at some point.. possibly.
Yeah. Trying to get the colours to stand out while not making them fluro or bringing outthe background to clash with the dragon was being a pain. You're right about the border, it is too dark.
The character's generic, no one or thing in particular past random 'Moon' Dragon. The design isn't set in stone and the colours where me just wanting somethign a bit brighter than the last one, hehe.
It's nice to get a long comment for once that actually has suggestions on how you think the image could be improved. You seriously don't get that much and I much prefer honest opinions over "OMG LOVE!" etc.
I could probably do to fiddle more with this but.. I probably wont. Too long messing with something and it's like ARGH. Just get it over n done with and try and improve on the next one, hehe.

Yes, self punishment! I seriously don't know how people throw up things like this each week or even every other day.. It amazes me. Though I suppose practice and consistantcy'd probably help.

Haha, I know what you mean when it comes to feathers. Recently started to get into digitial painting... the reference i'm using has an owl on it, so I spent a good part of yesterday drawing feathers. How grand.
But I digress - looks pretty damn great!

Two tails. Just because it's pretty much a completely impractical design but looks cool. It's fun making twistiness with two nice big long tails to play with.
