I love the fur effects the most in this pic, but its also the one thing that annoys me, they kinda look like..... feathers.
maybe have the fur flow more into itself rather than branching out so much?

Yes, 'tis cute. The shadow behind the ear is a great touch for lighting, but if you are going to try something like that, you should probably also incorporate an element to show more light coming down in front of the face... I wish I could help, but I'm not sure how I would do that myself.
