Description FAQ | About the Charity | About the Artbook + Guidelines | Artists + Themes | Deadlines

The contest is now closed! Thank you to everyone, who entered!!!

EDIT (July 27, 2016): There has been some confusion with the dimensions of the submissions. Each illustration must be 8.5” x 11” (21.59 cm x 27.94 cm or 2550 pixels x 3330 pixels at 300 dpi). In addition to this sizing, there should also be a bleed margin of 3.175 mm (0.125 in. or 37.5 pixels at 300 dpi) on all sides. We hope that this info clears up the confusion.

EDIT (July 27, 2016): Please, ignore the "How to Obtain a Theme" section of Artists + Themes in regards to the contest. you do not need to send us a note to select your theme. Any of the contestants can choose whatever theme they desire, even if someone else already drew an illustration regarding that theme. If there is a situation, where multiple illustrations have the same theme, only one of them would be able to win.

EDIT (June 25, 2016): Anyone can join the contest! You don't have to be a member of the group in order to join. Also, you do not need to send us a note to select your theme. Any of the contestants can choose whatever theme they desire, even if someone else already drew an illustration regarding that theme. If there is a situation, where multiple illustrations have the same theme, only one of them would be able to win.

EDIT (June 22, 2016): Since people were asking about how to select a theme, we created a new section right above the prizes section, explaining how to select a good theme for your contest entry. We hope that this answers your previous questions!

----------------------------------------------------------

We apologize for the long wait, but the contest is finally here!! We can't wait to see what you have in store for us!

Theme: “Gratefulness”

A daydream is “A dreamlike musing or fantasy while awake, especially of the fulfillment of wishes or hopes” (Source ). Daydreams can distract us from reality, straying us from seeing the happiness in what we already have. But, sometimes, they can show us the truth and bring us to the realization that there are things that are valuable in our lives, even if they aren’t everything that we wish to obtain.

Therefore, the theme of this contest is “Gratefulness.” Show us what you are grateful for in your life through fantastical and dreamlike settings, just how daydreams paint unlikely sceneries with the imagination.

Themes should be modeled after the phrase, “Grateful for [your theme]”. As a result, the theme is pretty open in terms of variety. As long as it follows all of the guidelines, submissions will be accepted.

Deadline

Everyone will have about three (3) months to enter the competition. So, you have until 11:59 PM CDT on September 20th, 2016, to enter. Here’s a website, where you can check the current CDT: www.thetimenow.com/cdt/central…

  • At least one character must be shown in the artwork.

    • Name that you want to appear in the artbook:

  • Black and white illustrations.
  • 18+ material (i.e. excessive violence/gore, nudity, explicit sexual themes, etc.).
  • Fanart/copyrighted material.
  • Photo manipulations. References can be used, though.
  • No traced/highly-referenced artwork. Again, some references can be used, though.
  • Sketches or incomplete works (which includes artwork with no background).
  • Photos or low quality scans of traditional artwork.
  • Huge watermarks or any other unintegrated text.
  • Old artwork. All artwork must be created for the purpose of this artbook.
  • Stock images and brushes that are not allowed for commercial use.

OPTIONAL RULE: If you make a journal, poll, and/or announcement regarding this contest, you will be entered in a raffle for a free copy of the artbook. Please, comment below with a link to the journal so that we can see it.

Advice for Selecting a Theme

You do not not need to request a theme! You can choose any theme you wish as long as it is not a theme, which was already selected by a participating artist. To see a list of themes already chosen, go to the following journal entry: Artists + Themes . Here is one last piece of advice: the more specific the theme for your entry, the bigger the possibility you may win.

We're trying our best to finish as quickly as possible and are currently formatting the book as well as working on promotional pre-order extras.
Pre-orders will probably be opened at the end of November.
Our current aim to get this project wrapped up before Christmas (Perfect idea for a present ? ).
Orders will probably be through storenvy or similar.

Hope this information clears something up?

Oh, i think I may have misunderstood about the size of the illustrations. If there are pictures that are 2550 pixels x 3330, would you be adding 37.5 pixels to them instead of cropping out 37.5 pixels? Instead of potentially cropping the illustrations, could you just minimize them so that there will be bleed  margins?

ViPOP In reply to BlueJNeko [2016-09-26 23:22:08 +0000 UTC]

ahh not sure if I'll be answering your question properly as I'm merely an artist who participated in the contest but no pixels will be added ;w; I think what was meant to be conveyed is that the art book entries should be drawn on a 2550 x 3330 canvas and just be aware that the details you put on the edges could potentially "disappear" when the book is bound ;w; I think the purpose of mentioning the bleed margin is just to make sure that no one puts an important detail in that region that could potentially not be shown when the artbook is bound >A<

As of right now, we are not exactly sure as to where the base shipping location would be. My colleagues live in Australia/New Zealand, while I live in the US, so there might be a large change that they would ship from my location. I cannot guarantee that, though.

Hmmm... I can't really help you that much with your first question, (I did 3330 in my entry), but to be safe I would make one with 3330, but able to be cropped down as a backup.

However, you are correct about the bleed margin. Part of it might be cut off, so they want you to be aware of that.

Finally, for the theme, each theme in the final artbook will be unique with no repeats. If an artist who is already part of the artbook has used your theme, you cannot win. If you choose the same theme as someone else in the competition and they do better than you (i.e. you get second and they get first), your art will be disqualified because they drew a better picture with the same theme. This is why more unique themes have a bigger chance of winning, because they have the smallest chance of you being disqualified.

I hope this helps answers your questions!

List of Participating Artists with ThemesFAQ | About the Charity | About the Artbook + Guidelines | Artists + Themes | Deadlines
How to Obtain a Theme
To obtain a theme, please, send Eulenlied a note or an email at daydreamartbook@gmail.com with the title “DayDream Artbook Theme,” and the theme that you would like to choose should be included in the email in the form of “Grateful for [your theme]”. No theme can be drawn by more than one artist.
When Requesting a Theme...
Please, don't try to have too general of a theme. We want to give people the chance to have similar themes that are in the same category. For example, instead selecting the theme of "Grateful for Animals," try picking something like "Grateful for Felines" or "Grateful for Birds."

Ekkoberry In reply to Autobot-North [2016-07-24 04:09:16 +0000 UTC]

Sorry for the slow reply!

the width is 2550pixels, the height 3330 pixels, or alternatively 8.5" x 11" Yamio did a nice job of clearing up the 3mm bleed, don't add that to the canvas size, but please be aware that area might be cropped when printing ;a;/

For the themes, if an artist on our list has the theme already, please don't do the same as them, as they're confirmed to be in the book. However, if there's a contest entry with the same theme, while it's not recommenced to do the same, there's no rule against it.

Dimensions: 8.5” x 11” (21.59 cm x 27.94 cm; 2550 x 3330 pixels). There should also be a bleed margin of 3 mm on all sides.

Kaliga In reply to Autobot-North [2016-07-14 23:25:58 +0000 UTC]

Actually (and this is just what I think) I think its like, you would first draw your picture on the given size, and then when your done add the extra 3 mm for the bleed margin on the final product o:

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Autobot-North In reply to Kaliga [2016-07-15 00:31:07 +0000 UTC]

What?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kaliga In reply to Autobot-North [2016-07-15 00:35:27 +0000 UTC]

So you would draw it on the size 8.5" x 11", then after you've finished the actual picture you change the image size and add the 3 mm on. I also don't know if what I'm saying is right yet btw, I'm just assuming :'D
